Perhaps Cameron wanted more of a pet project instead of a more polished QB that Quinn was. Quinn was slated as being NFL ready. Maybe Cam's ego got out of control and simply wants to groom his own NFL QB. Not very logical thread, but conspiracy theories can be fun.

Maybe Cameron is a few pineapples short of a fruit salad...

his name after all is Cameron Cameron :sidelol: :err: :err:

Actually something that concerns me is Cam seems like a cream puff....Drafting Ginn because of his relationship with his old man, his press conferences boil down to him praising the entire universe, falling in love with Beck because he is a "good guy", bringing in the Samoan love fest....

Maybe it is just an act, not sure what he was like in mini camps. I realize the Sabanaters attitude didn't produce anything, but I believe the right direction is somewhere between the two. Hope these guys don't walk all over him ala Bill Calahan, Pete Carrol etc....

I don't know if he was being ****y, but boy did he take a chance. It was an aggresive and bold choice that will either make or break him.

Someone on another board posted that Cameron broke a shotgun wedding that the media had engaged between the Dolphins and Quinn. Steve Young was practically describing the statue we would someday erect of Quinn next to Dan Marino before we passed on him.

I don't have a problem with the decision because there is a logic to it. Beck IS more accurate and Cameron felt that this was important. If Beck pans out then great. No issue.

But Cam is now married to Beck like it or not. I know we only invested a 2nd rounder in him, but by passing on Quinn in a year where people on Mars knew we had to draft a qb Cam effectively stapled himself to Beck. If Beck works out then his passing on Quinn is genious. If Beck fails Cam will probably find himself out of head coaching. It was the single most important decision for him and Mueller early in their tenure with the Phins, and regardless of whether or not anyone thinks he made the right decision he surely made a bold one. So maybe you could call it ****y. But, as with any draft, you will only really know how it turns out in retrospect.

I respect the fact that he and Mueller had the guts to take their guys knowing the fans and media would roast them. But neither has built any cred with the organization or fans so they better be praying their decision works out like they thought it would. Ironically if it does work out and especially if both Beck and Ginn are what the FO thought they were Cam and Mueller will be lionized as geniuses. It is funny how wide the swing can be when you take a risk like they did. I don't know if there is much middle ground in how this draft can be perceived due to the chances we took.

Maybe Cam and Randy felt that Quinn was a less accurate QB than Beck, and Quinn didn't perform his best in close games, while Beck performed his best in the clutch... you know, just like they have said in numerous press conferences.

I know Steve Young was all over Quinn as the man. But he admitted that his accuracy was suspect and that accuracy is very important. Young is a BYU guy and claims to like Beck, so it seems like he wants to have it both ways. That Quinn was the smart pick, but that Beck is good also. I think these pundits should pick one side or the other.

Let me float this idea.

Most analysts at the end of the college football season had Beck ranked 10-15th QB while Quinn was 1 or 2. Quinn was on TV every week while BYU's games weren't available nationally most weeks.

After looking at game tape, some anaylsts realized that Beck and Quinn aren't that far apart in abilities or maybe Quinn wasn't as good as they thought. Beck rises up the draft charts while Quinn's position on the draft boards starts to drop.

Additionally, Quinn was mentored by Weiss who is susposed to be a QB guru and is an ex-NFL coach. Quinn already has 2 years of NFL coaching under his belt.

Beck, on the other hand, was been mentored by a first time OC who was an OL coach and an ex-NFL QB who was only a backup for a couple of years.

Who had the better coaching? Most would say Quinn by a long shot.

IF Quinn and Beck, in the eyes of the Dolphins, were very similar, who has more upside? Maybe they feel Beck has more upside because he hasn't had the benefit of NFL coaching.

Sorry, but you don't draft "pet projects" on the first day. Who decided that Quinn was a more polished QB? Let's see, Beck has better arm strength, footwork, and accuracy. Quinn was a product of a hyped-up media, who at last check, does not draft the players.
