I thought it was a great idea when they announced Aretha Franklin to do the National Anthem in rememberance of New Olreans, but I was extremely disappointed with their performance. The National Anthem is like the culmination of the opening ceremonies and pretty much kicks off the game with exception to the coin toss. I've actually song the National Antem at an exhibition Marlins game before and that meant alot to me, so a poor performance at the Super Bowl is just kind of disappointing for me...anyone else? Aretha Franklin is a huge historical figure and what shes done for soul music, New Orleans, and everything else. I'm not comprimising those accomplishments at all, but flame on if you feel its necessary cause I wouldn't be suprised...:fire:

I agree, I thought the presentation was pretty bad. I like when they sing it in the traditional way, not something like that.

I agree. Why cant people just sing the words. Every artist is trying to make it a performance. It is what it is.

A national anthem is like a prayer it should be taken seriously and delivered a certain way.

yea....this could actually be merged with the whole ABC argument, but I am an advocate of the traditional national anthem. The idea wasn't bad, but the presentation of it was just aweful.

The whole night was just terrible!

You could actually BET in Vegas on the OVER/UNDER on the national anthem. It was set at 2:15.

It's a song that can be sung in about a minute, these entertainers do a personal masterbation and drag it out.

that was an abomination of the great song. Roseanne Barr did it better. Also, someone needs to tell Aaron Neville he cannot sing. He doesn't have his brothers around anymore to back him up. As for Aretha....way to let yourself go to a fat blob

Glad to see others thought the National Anthem was bad. Thought maybe it was just me, but obviously not. Half time show was crappy as well I thought. Something about 60 year old guys jumping around on stage doesnt seem entertaining, to me anyways.

 Very interesting way to put it MikeO.

Aaron Neville did a horrible job on his part of the anthem.
Now I like the gospel tinged version of the anthem, but they should have let Aretha do it alone.
