With the horrendous play of the secondary last night, this kid still can't find a starting job somewhere out there? I didn't see him on the field once and wer'e starting the likes of Andre Goodman, Travares Tillman, and Renaldo Hill... I almost puked when I saw the starting secondary lastnight, it's such a joke. We just got torched through the air by Charlie Batch, what's going to happen when we play teams with competent quarterbacks and healthy recievers? I know our pass rush is good but I don't think there is a pass rush in the league that could make our secondary look decent...
My biggest question is; why the hell didn't our front office make the secondary a bigger priority in the off season? The game lastnight reminded me of so many games last year where we just kept giving up first downs through the air and it was very aggrivating.
If Jason Allen can't beat out one of these guys, namely Tillman, Goodman and Hill, for a starting job then that's kinda pathetic IMO.

The article I read the other day said he has been demoted to ST play until and this is his own words " I need to learn to crawl before I can walk. I am the baby of this group." Explains why he thought he was worth holding out longer than anyone but Leinart.:shakeno: I think he will get in there sometime this year.

EDITED cus my reading comprehension sucks as bad as my spelling.

throughout the game he kept saying, "why dont they just throw it deep on allen, he gets burned all the time."

if you ask me allen is very fast but not the best cover guy. He should move to FS when yall find a decent CB.
He was talking about our 16th overall pick that held out so long on us.

but to answer the original question: "why didnt the front office make the secondary a bigger priority in the offseason". Its because they put the QB position as the #1 priority. and there is this thing called a cap.
We're talking about Jason Allen, not Will Allen.

Anyway, Jason was on the field for special teams last night and I remember definitely that he had atleast one penalty called on him. Besides that, he did nothing. He has been a major disappointment thus far, but I still have faith that he'll be good. He's only a rookie and him holding out for a week+ of training camp didn't help either. If we don't see any progress by week 8 or so, then we should worry a little.

re:

Besides being fast and have good combines numbers, what has the kid really ever done? In many of his college highlight films, he is making tackles but HE is the one getting run over. Yeah, maybe he has good coverage skills for a safety (meaning speed and athleticm) but with the mental mistakes he has made thus far, it doesn't amount to anything. I said it on draft day and i will continue to say it, unless you draft a safety like Sean Taylor or Ed Reed, 16th pick overall was way too high for a safety, especially one who hadn't done much up to that point. Plus, corner is much more of a pressing need for us. You can find serivceable safeties much easier than you can find good corners.

Ya you're right, we have a great secondary and Jason Allen is just buried beneath perennial pro bowlers on the depth chart... :shakeno:
Are you out of you're mind? I am using common sense in saying that Andre Goodman, Renaldo Hill, Travares Tillman, and Will Allen are decent at best. If our first round S/CB can't find a starting spot in a secondary with those bums, then that is pitiful. We should have made a more serious push to improve the secondary in the off season, maybe a Brian Williams (although he was overpaid for by Jax) would have made sense. I'm not sure who else exactly was available but I'm sure we could've done better than journeymen like Goodman and Hill.

Like many of you, I also think the secondary isn't all that great. Jason Allen will be starting eventually and he just needs to learn Saban's defense a little better as it is very complex to understand.

WTF man . . . the whole defense underachieved last night . . . plain and simple. These guys will be fine . . . Our front seven didn't do a good enuff job and u have to credit the PIttsburgh OLine, they were outstanding last night. We blitzed several times last night . . . and not Once in my memory do I remember us getting penetration to the QB . . . with our blitz being ineffective we were much more vulnerable to plays in the passing game . . . u gotta chock this game up to the Pitt OLine, they out performed our DLine . . . just because the secondary got burned a few times . . . don't blame the game on them . . . it is a completely new secondary playing for the first time together in live regualr season action . . . damn man. Allen is even more behind in knowing this defense than the other 2 safeties and u want to start him . . . a rookie over quality vets . . . man I tell u . . . I'm really starting to wonder about the so called Fin Fans we have here.

We did play a competent QB, with good recieveres. We lost a close game on the road.

our front 7 was very solid. The poor play of the secondary allowed them to get fatigued and even disheartened..on many blown 3rd downs. blitzing could've been a bit moe effective, but we did have several hurries and sacks. You're not gonna get in every time against a good o-line.

and this post proves my point. You have no understanding of anything.
