The way things are unfolding tells me that Wayne is not going to deviate from the way he approaches his busisness. As a very successful entrepeneur, and owner of very wealthy companies, Wayne sees the Miami Dolphins as another company in which the top man (CEO) is the coach.
After reading what coach Carroll has said in California, I strongly believe that Wayne is looking for an individual to take complete control of the team (Like any CEO would take complete control of any large corporation).
That formula, translated to the NFL, has had mixed reviews. The companies (teams) who have had sucess are those that have strong VP's (asst. head coaches & talent evaluators). The patriots are an excellent example!
That's probably why he likes people like Jimmy, Saban, and now Carroll. Individuals who appear to have what it takes to be the CEO, with complete control.
This is his formula, and I dont believe he will change.
So, knowing this, I wonder which NFL asssistant coach conducts himself in a manner that leads Wayne to trust this individual with complete control of the Dolphins?
That's why it appears he is so intrigued by Carrol. If that doesn't materialize, which candidate has those leadeship intangibles that Wayne is looking for?

I believe he's handling it all wrong. Get a FOOTBALL guy in here to select the next coach. With all due respect to Dolphins CEO Joe Bailey and Miami president Bryan Wiedmeier, they are NOT "football guys". I'd rather see Mueller more involved. Or better yet, bring Pioli in first. Let him make the "football" decisions including having a say in who the coach will be. Then let him handle the draft, free agency, re-signings, managing the cap, etc. Let the coach be the coach and handle X's and O's.

Wayne has had very bad judgement in allowing his last 3 coaches (JJ, Wanny and Saban) to have complete control. It's time he re-thinks this method and tries something else.

In recent years, it doesn't have mixed reviews. It has "failed reviews."

It simply does not work. Some of the best NFL coaches have failed at it. The closest to success with it is Belichick - but even he does not fit that model for several reasons.

First, Robert Kraft is really the man in New England. He has far more hands on control of the team than does Huizenga - who basically does not want every day involvement with the Dolphins.

Second, the drafting and talent scouting is largely handled by Scott Pioli and is more of an organizational decision than a "one man show."

I'd rather it be Wayne's way, than Al Davis's way.....at least Wayne doesn't meddle into the aspects of the team 24/7....like Al does and Jerry Jones with the Cowturds.

I too would like a "football guy" heavily involved in the interviewing process, but from everything being said arounf here it seems that Mueller is not highly involved....why, I dont know?

Having one guy in charge of everything is a recipe for disaster. Get a football GM in there. Let him along w/WH input hire a HC.

Having one person making all the decisions gives no room for other perspectives. A strong relationship between a HC and GM is always the best case scenario.

Bryan Weidmeier has been with the Dolphins since he was in college, everyday til now. He never coached or played in the NFL . He has football guys beat because he is a hard working loyal employee with un waverig character. Shula has respect for him, Jimmy,Wanny and H Wayne now how lucky the Dolphins are to have him. Football guys are in place, and they all are glad that they have Brian Wiedemeier.

The faster he loses that stupid corporate philosophy, the better off he'll be. This isn't a ****ing Fortune 500 company, and a head coach in the NFL isn't a ****ing CEO. If this is the way Huizenga views our organization, he needs to sell it and spare us all before we have to wait another 34 years for a Super Bowl. :shakeno: :fire:

I think too many fans are listening to the so-called "experts" on this issue of GM/Coach. If I was the coach, I would want complete control. That doesn't mean that I would be doing everything, but everyone would ansswer to me. I would want to pick my GM to help me find the players I needed to fit my system. Like Parcell's said, "If I'm gonna cook the meal let me buy the groceries." If I am going to held accountable for the team's success, let me pick the people I want. I think Wayne is doing it exactly right. He's NOT stupid - most billionaires didn't get rich by being stupid. It is incredible to believe he is not getting "football" input from football people. I say back-off and leave him alone. No one has more to gain or lose on this coaching choice and management set-up that WH.
The problem with Saban was not the complete control he had, the problem was Saban. He was a weasel who was not equipped to be a head coach at the NFL level. Shula had complete control and he did OK. Low charcter people end up failing no matter where they are or what they are doing.

This tells me Wayne is OK with having a losing franchise. Does he not get the picture? Giving control to a HC is commiting suicide. It just proves how bad of an owner Wayne is. He does not understand that the system he has applied before is broken and needs to be fixed. Patch work does not cut it anymore. In order to be successfull you need someone bringing in the talent and someone teaching the X's and O's. Not have one do both. Wayne knows nothing about football how can we put our trust in him hiring the right coach? He has brought in two quitters and one mustach.

Bailey specifically said last night that Mueller IS very involved. Some of you just want to ignore that and continue on this GM rant.

The reality is that some of you are fixated on the fantasy acquisition of Pioli. That's the real motivation with all of this and it's a waste of a debate because there's no reason to believe he'd leave N.E.

Mueller is a good GM so the thing many of you are arguing about is already in place.

What gets me about Wayne is that he doesn't learn from his mistakes. Whether you know football or not, there are things that have not worked for the Dolphin organization, and yet, he still goes about it the same way.

Hey, I like Mueller. I think we're fine with Mueller as GM. But don't you think it's natural to wonder how integral Mueller's role in this process is when he hasn't once met with a candidate face to face? It's been Huizenga, Bailey and Widemeier. And quite frankly, why the hell should I believe Bailey? Guys like him typically think they are smarter than the average fan, therfore they think they can tell us what we want to hear so we pipe down. Until I see that Mueller IS indeed involved in the process, and DOES have a future with this franchise as a GM and talent evaluator- IE, Wayne or Bailey actually INVOLVING him on one of these trips- I'm not buying it. I thnk it's a sin too. Mueller is a proven GM. He SHOULD be in on these interviews, and he SHOULD be running the player personnel side of this organization until he proves he can't.

During the radio interview the other night Bailey was asked by a caller the same thing you're asking now in regards to why isn't Muller in the interviews. And Bailey seemed to get flustered by the caller, and didnt give a definite answer.

Gee, I wonder why? Maybe it's because Bailey is full of ****.
