I think Dom's done an alright job with the crew he has, except for giving up the big plays at times.

His blitzing schemes are entirely overrated. We get absolutely no pressure on the QB with blitzes and our LBs get stoned at the point of attack.

I am not a fan of so much blitzing.Teams are expecting it and are waiting to exploit it for big plays.

Also I dont like to see Zach blitz.Otherwise he is a great DC.

The defense is ranked 5th overall. He's done a pretty good job with the talent that he has had. If he had some young talent on the defense i bet the blitzing would be alot more effective.

definitely better than mularkey(not hard to do). i wouldnt mind seeing what he can do with a health secondary and some more speed at linebacker and some more speed at DE.

Considering Capers reputation {master at installing the 3-4}, he's been only mediocre in my opinion. This defense certainly isn't playing better than they were a year ago, and that's unacceptable in my opinion. I certainly wouldn't rule out Saban finding another DC during the off-season.....

I'm not saying he sucks, but he certainly hasn't made our defense any better either. Why did we hire this guys again???....

PHINZ RULE!!!!

If our blitzing is ineffective its not Capers fault. He came in as a 3-4 guru but we dont have the linebackers to play the 3-4 as effectively as a team like the Patriots. The fact that this team has been a top five team (even if its only in yardage) is still impressive.

hmmmmm......

we are now comparing a guys unit who is almost DEAD LAST
in the nfl to a guys unit who is in the top 5 and asking if
the top 5 guy sux??

WTF??????

the only flaws in our defense are the clowns that saban drafted
and picked up in f/a.

think of this top 5 defense if we would have brought in some talent?

I agree with one of the posters in that the blitzing schemes are not working as well as expected. This can be attributed to several reasons. For example, Zach has lost a step and gets bulled around like a pinball when rushing in between the tackles. He always seems a step late. Unfortunately, Miami is very limited with blitzing solely because of Zach. Yes, he still makes plays and is one of my favorite players. But think about it, if Zach blitzes, he gets manhandled. If they decide on blitzing a DB, then Zach has to stay out in coverage. Either way, Miami loses that battle 9 times out of 10. Even the all-out blitzes seem to be ineffective. I do not know if Miami is having a difficult time with disguising the blitz, but whatever they're doing is not working. I've noticed that Miami seems to have better pressure sans the blitz. I like the tenacity Capers is trying to instill by blitzing more often, but it has not panned out. The secondary has a little to do with the pressure, too. I surely hope Saban and Co. have something up their sleeves against the Bears.

Capers has done OK with the limited personnel and limited talent he has to work with, 5th in the league isn't anything to criticize. Give him some more talent and he'll be fine.

We're 5th in the league on defense, and yet we've only mustered up one lousy win. Not to mention the strength of the schedule thus far has been a cake walk for the most part....

Honestly, this years defense isn't as good as it was a year ago. We give up way too many big plays in the clutch, and commit far too many big time penalties in the secondary. Our pass rush is average at best, and regardless of the stats, we haven't been able shut down anyone really....

We're ranked "overrated" in my opinion....

PHINZ RULE!!!!

I havnt got a prob with Capers. Our D is the best thing going for us this season. Capers also inherited our defensive backfield so its not his fault. Our Dbs are a mess IMO.

He seems limited to the 4-3, because we got rid of Seau. Maybe with Pope coming back, we can see a little more 3-4. Probably not, though.

The wrong safeties were playing for 7 games. In addition, if these safeties are not playing well, you could force production out of them by using a safety-blitz.

Capers seems fine, though.

No we all don't know MM sucks, but we all know some fans are clueless!! MM has been the OC in Miami for all of 7 games, how on earth can you conclude what he is, based on 7 games?? Why don't you try supporting the team instead of trashing them, we get enough of that from the two year old Bill, Jet and Pat fans that happen by.

It's a little unfair to bash him because of the lack of a good O-line...but honestly, the 2pt conversion play vs Houston, and the pitch out to Ronnie on 3rd and 2 at Pittsburgh? How do those 2 calls not suck?
