The more I think about it, the more I feel we are positioned nicely in this draft. Although I would like Brady Quinn to fall to us and #9, it seems no matter what happens we will be left with a very good player at our spot. If you run down the possibilities, it seems we are in a good position to get an elite prospect.

Here is the way I see it...

Guys that are sure to be gone before 9:

Calvin Johnson
Joe Thomas
Jamarcus Russell

Likely to be gone:

Adrian Peterson
Gaines Adams
Alan Branch

So where does that leave us? only 2 more players will be chosen before we pick, but any permutation will leave us with a very good prospect. I would be very happy with:

Jamaal Anderson
Brady Quinn
Levi Brown
Robert Meachem (my preference, but insert Ginn here if you like)
Amobi Okoye

I think there are 4 can't miss prospects in this draft (Calvin Johnson (btw he's once in a lifetime), Peterson, Joe Thomas, and Gaines Adams), but the next group is very solid. After the 12 guys I mentioned, I think the first round falls off by a pretty good bit. We are guaranteed to get one of the impact type players - no matter which we end up with it's hard to be too disappointed.

If Kalil drops to us in the 2nd round, I would be thrilled.

i would be happy with that

i am 100% that quinn will fall to us:cooldude:

I disagree. I the Fins are in an uncomfortable draft spot. There are 8 top tier players and unfortunately we draft 9th which will presumably mean we'd be reaching on our pick (ie. Brown, Ginn). Theres maybe one guy who wouldnt be a reach IMO, and thats Laron Landry but no way Cam`drafts a safety when the Fins just drafted a safety.

BTW...Meachem is a HUGE reach and Okoye doesnt fit the Fins defensive scheme. He'd do better in 4-3 base D.

If Kalil drops to us in the second round, I would be thrilled.
Personally, I would rather draft Joe Staley if he's there but he might just crack into the first round. I would still be excited with Kalil too but I also think he's shooting up draft boards because he's been impressing scouts at the combine.

actually i think that landry is still very much a possibility because jason allen played cb the year he was drafted. and can very well be moved to cb if we need him to.

with the way it seems to be shaping out. landry may very well be our pick if we deem levi brown or teddy ginn as not top ten picks. i also dont see how mia can draft jamaal anderson after just signing holiday plus we like roth and rod wright.

yea we shoul dhave some good choices there. i think 100% we go SOLB, LT, or QB with teh 9th n if the LT or QB isnt there then it gets replaced with S or WR.

lets forget these numbers crap and just draft stanton at #9 so we can have our qb this ratings crap doesnt really help us out on the feild the palyers do though.

we should draft #1 stanton
#2 olb or center
#3 wr woods
# 4 left tackle
#6 olb or cb
#7 wr or fb

i would be okay with that for the most part.
I think after stanton, the chances of anybody being our qb for a extended period of time from this draft drops off quickly.
If we really want a qb stanton will be it. quinn and russell with both be gone.
Another way to probably accomplish this is to trade down to around maybe 20, where we could still take stanton with our first and acquire an additional second round pick.
than we could go stanton
2nd C or LT
2nd C, LT, or OLB
3rd WR
4th LB or CB
6th BPA
7th BPA

stanton keeps doing well in everything this offseason, as I have noted in a lot of my posts. this poses a problem for getting him for us. The better he does the more difficult it is for us to get him in a trade down. the better he does, may force our hand with keeping the ninth pick and taking him, or saying goodbye to drafting a qb and filling other needs this year.

No way Miami drafts Stanton at 9. IF ANYTHING, miami will trade for New Englands second 1st round pick to draft Stanton if they feel he is worth it

How are we positioned nicely? There is no way we'll get a guy like Quinn or Russell. If the Texans pass on Quinn, people in Houston will chase Kubiak out of town after not taking Bush, Leinhart, or Young. We won't be getting Calvin Johnson that's for sure and Joe Thomas is looking mighty unlikely. Levi Brown is a bit of a reach at #9 as well as Ted Ginn Jr. I could see them reaching for a DB. Hopefully they trade down but the odds are against us.
