Reality: The Dolphins are very close to the bottom of the NFL food chain ... Joey Harrington was a good bye-week replacement thanks to his 414 passing yards (he did play Green Bay), but this team has some problems. The play-calling doesn't let Ronnie Brown regularly get 20 carries and Chris Chambers isn't being utilized the same way he was last year. Randy McMichael and the end zone go together like chocolate and shattered glass. This very much looks more like the 2005 Bills offense and less like the 2005 Dolphins offense, and that's no surprise since Mike Mularkey is the offensive boss.

Man, talk about hitting the nail on the head.. with a Buick. Can someone post this in the head coach's office?

Wow... national media realizing how bad MM is?? NO WAY!! I am stunned. With all off the media drooling to jump all over Saban, this is the 1st thing I have read criticizing the offensive playcalling.

You know what that means... the writers of this ACTUALLY WATCHED THE GAMES.

You got a link? I will trust them alot more now knowing that they actually watch the games instead of just looking at the box score.

whatever the source for the comments they are accurate. We have lost all but one game, that in and of itself says it all.

Ronnie hasn't gotten 20 carries yet?Didn't know that. You think there holding him back, not wearing him out?
I hate this Mularkey offense!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!And what sucksis that we keep changing o.Cord's every year, there's no continuity.

So keep Mularkey. He's not the problem anyway.

But part of it. The problem with Mularkey is that he calls tricky plays in so many unnecessary situations in so many times, it's not even funny. I'll take away the HB pass by Ronnie, 'cause had it not been for a slip it would of been good. But come on man? Calling a run from a shotgun split back formation with Morris as the halfback when Ronnie Brown pretty much specializes in short yardage situations? Not even allowing Ronnie Brown to even average 20 carries a game? Ridiculous.

I agree that Ronnie should be getting 20+ carries per game. But he had 15 carries for 59 yards. That's an average of 3.9 yards per rush. Add five more carries, and Ronnie ends up with 79 yards based on that average.

Ronnie also had 5 receptions for 63 yards, giving him a total of 20 touches for 122 yards. A little dump off is as good as a hand-off.

Some might argue that you don't know what Ronnie would have done with those five extras carries. But then, what would he do with five extra passes thrown his way?

Also, did you know that we converted 11 first downs by passing? By contrast, we only converted 2 first downs by running. When you're having that kind of success throwing the ball, it's hard for me to blame Mularkey for not running the ball more.

Also, both our TDs were pass plays not run plays. Again, you might argue who knows what would have happened if we ran the ball. But we do know what happened when we threw it in those two instances. 6 points.

dude this Mularkey stuff is ridiculous, since i live up here now, (born and raised but lived in south fl for 6 years) that the fans in Buffalo complained in his first year that he ran the ball to much.

don't let the media make your decisions they have no idea what they are talking about, as far as I can see what is happening is this team is building an offensive system that will move the ball quickly regardless of who the signal caller is, and that's a good thing for both fantasy football and just football.

What is it that you like about his play calling?

I know a lot of people on this forum believe Mularkey should run the ball more. And maybe they're right. But I think Mularkey is doing a good job getting the ball to Ronnie...

Pitt - 18 touches for 63 yards
Buff - 21 touches for 122 yards
Tenn - 28 touches for 100 yards
Hou - 20 touches for 101 yards
NE - 18 touches for 38 yards
NYJ - 22 carries for 127 yards (no receptions)
GB - 20 touches for 122 yards

I don't care if Ronnie leads the league in rushing as long as he is being productive and helping the team.

And I think Mularkey is a scapegoat. Look at the Jets game. We were having a lot of succes running the ball, so Mularkey didn't call one pass play to Ronnie. Not one. Same thing with Tennessee. Only 2 pass plays for Ronnie, because we were running the ball well. Only one pass to Ronnie in the New England game also.

But nobody is posting about how Mularkey did a good job in those games, because it isn't as obvious. Mistakes are obvious. But everybody makes mistakes.

I like to think for myself. And I'm just not buying into the whole "Mularkey sucks" vibe. Sacks, penalties, INTs, tackles behind the line of scrimmage, and dropped passes are more of a problem than Mularkey. But that's just one man's opinion. Take it or leave it.

You make some valid points finole but the fact is we look unprepared and amke many many mistakes. I think even with a 4 yd carry average or slightly lower our chances go up to conserve time and move the ball with less mistakes. Picks on our end of the field kill us, picks that go the other way kill us. We dont have the talent to overcome these mistakes. Obviously we are seeing protection issues and dropped/deflected passes but does that mean pass more? If the answer is yes so be it, but if the answer is no then mularkey is to blame.

Also i looked up some stats. We are #1 in pass attempts and very close to the bottom in rush attempts. Add to that we are near the bottom in yds per pass (24th) but in the top half of the league when it comes to yds per rush (13th).
I (as a layman) dont understand if we are near the bottom of the league in efficiently throwing and pass blocking and in the top half of the league running (by average per carry) why we dont just balance things out more if not lean the other direction.
