We've got to find a TE prospect somewhere in this draft. McMichael is just not getting it done on either front...blocking or receiving. His athleticism has always been enticing, but we need a TE that will make the simple blocks he is asked to execute, and make the easy catches as the outlet receiver. It would be nice to have a dynamic TE in the mold of Heap, Gates, or Gonzalez, but at this point, I will settle for CONSISTENT.

Is Olsen out of UM a first round prospect? Because I would give him a chance in the 3rd. Do any of you draft gurus think he will be available at that position.

While were on it... how many picks do we have this year. What rounds do we not have?

Here are the top 5 TE's in this year's draft according to www.DraftDaddy.com (how accurate this actually is, who knows...)

1.Zach Miller Arizona State
2.Greg Olsen Miami
3.Joe Newton Oregon State
4.Matt Spaeth Minnesota
5.Clark Harris Rutgers

Trade McMichael for a 3rd and promote Peele till we get some better talent at that position

Mcmike just got an extension last year and he got somewhere around 33 Mil. I don't think they would have given him an extension if they didn't think he could get the job done.

mcmike acctually had his best year blocking this year...and he acctually had his second best season in terms of yards and receptions...I know he had a bad year in terms of drops and maybe alittle competition would be good for him...and the solution to this problem can be found on our roster right now...Justin Peele...he has alot of potential in my eyes and should be given a chance to take randy's starting position this next year...but in the end randy will win the job...

I'd imagine that Miami will be in the market for a blocking specialist, not a replacement for McMichael. Both Jim Mora Jr. and Chan Gailey have used bigger tight ends as a sort of 6th offensive linemen. Mora Jr. had a converted 6'3" 300 pound ex-Center as a blocking specialist in Eric Beverly, and Chan Gailey had Hunter Goodwin at his stop down here.

I think a big blocking TE would be of benefit to the offense. It would free up Ronnie Brown and Randy McMichael to do what they are best at, catching the ball. It would also help tremendously to have a faster, but undersized(In comparison to an OT) blocker to help our larger and slower OL out with speed rushers. Alternately, it could help a younger starting Tackle like Alabi or a rookie tremendously.

Seems like a good year for these guys, too. Daniel Graham and Kyle Brady are FAs, Jeremy Stevens has size and potential, and I've heard rumors that Erron Kinney and Jim Kleinsasser might be out there.

I was thinking the same thing. After watching many of this years games over again (as I recorded every game of the season)...I noticed that many of Ronnie's tackles behind the line of scrimmages and many of both Culpepper's and Harrington's sacks were due to Mcmichael getting flat out beat by the blitzer or not picking the blitzer up.

Most of our blocking break downs arent the OLine getting beat...as much as Mcmichael getting beat. There were some times in the first few games where Carey got beat or the RG got beat...but mostly it was McMichael getting beat by a blitzer.

Twice Welker got beat by his assignment as well.

All in all, a big part of our "fixing the Oline" would be solved by bringing in a great "blocking" TE.

Go to the corner....and put on a dunce hat for an ignorant statement like that!

McMichael's blocking...or lack there of...was the biggest reason for many sacks or ronnie's tackles behind the line of scrimmage

Did you see the Min game? Count how many of those was Randy's fault.

Wonder how bad of a cap hit we'd take ? Could always try and trade him away, but the market may be slim for him. I had thought Randy would improve this past year, but once he signed the extention, he went south. I'd say if we can get something for him, trade him and bring in a hungry rookie (mid/late round of draft). Else, have a blocking TE and bring RM in on passing downs, as his blocking is not very good.
