Everyone seems to have different reasons why we lost, QB, Oline, We Suck, Secondary and even T.Ginn. I look at it as a combination of most but most importantly it was the game planning.

We got rid of Satele for Groves to handle people up the middle and bring a nasty attitude in the run game. Instead of drafting a #1 WR we went later with some recievers to improve our core of WR's. We also drafted a QB to help with a Wild Cat package that is run based but now adds the pass element to make it more dangerous. We kept 4 RB's on the roster and more TE's then ever. All of this points towards a run first and second option team, these type of teams do not need big time WR's or even a big time QB all of which we do not have. J.Long was draft because he's a great run blocker and has potential to be a consistant All-Pro LT.

Now turnovers kills every team that's pretty simple, we saw how not turning the ball over wins more games then you lose last year.

We barely ran the ball on Sunday and for some strange reason we decided to drop back and throw more. Atlanta's defense is suspect but proved over and over that they have a strong pass rush. Why did we not game plan around our strengths and pound the day lights out rock on first and second down and take our chances on 3rd and short. Long, Groves and Thomas excell in the run game and yet we asked them to pass pro all day. Pennington is not a drop back, avoid the rush and make something happen like the Manning's, Big Ben, Tom and others. We did everything opposite of what we we're lead to belkieve we are and failed at it. That falls on Henning and TS for the game plan, yes if Fasano doesn't fumble the ball twice and Penny's horrid pick doesn't happen we probably might have sqeaked out a win. But the bottom line for me is the game planning was terrible and we put ourselves in position to fail instead of positioning us to succeed.

You can argue that Penny and Ginn are not enough and we need improvement in those areas on the team but it had less to do with our loss on Sunday then our game plan.

Why do I bring this up in the 1 million'th thread, we may not be able to change the QB position for the better right now, we know the FO won't trade for Marshall, we can't make major changes to the Oline but we can improve our offensive game planning for the up coming game and if we don't this will be the reason we have a long season. We saw last season adjusting the game plan can work to work to your strengths.

To Henning and TS run the damn ball, play action the pass and defend, defend, defend then the victories will follow.

I think this team has a better chance using 3 wr sets and using high percentage short routes. Spread the defense thin and then mix in the run, this will have Ronnie and Ricky seeing bigger lanes. A well managed high percentage passing game, with draws and counters, and screen passes when the defense is getting aggressive.

His name is Jake Grove... Not Jake Groves.

Just like Tony McDaniel is Tony McDaniel... Not McDaniels, as some people routinely call him here.

And Kendall Langford is not Kendall Langfork, as some people call him.

Our offensive game plan did seem pretty out of wack. I'm not sure what kind of offense this coaching staff wants to run.

it looked to me like the whole game was an experiment to see how the gadget plays looked....

Football a marathon............not so much

It's one game... the season is a marathon ....
Football is not like the 3 other popular American sports where they play over 100 games per season........ Each game win or loss means so much more, whether it be be the 1st game or not.......It doesn't mean you should give up hope as a fan, it's just reality....

They're all reasons why Miami lost....but here's the real issue...

They drafted a franchise left tackle with the #1 overall pick with the expectations that he could lock down the left side and protect the quarterbacks blind side from on-coming pass rushers.....it didn't happen...

They paid Vernon Carey like a franchise right tackle with the same expectations...only on the other side....it didn't happen...

You get the picture here...

A lot of times....teams get you out of your "game plan"....and you have to find other ways to win...that's what seperates LEGITIMATE superbowl caliber teams year in and year out from the pretenders...

Everyone knows what Atlanta's game plan was and is....it's to pound you with Michael Turner....

Well..Michael Turner was shut down....so they found another way to get it done....

You're not just going to line up and blast defenses off the ball week in and week out with the running game in the NFL....you can't keep your quarterback hid for 16 weeks....your quarterback has to make plays in this league....you have to score points...

If Miami could threaten defenses further down the field...it would help open up the running game dramatically...

It goes way beyond game planning.....Miami's supposed "best" players were straight up whipped....over and over again...

Game planning had nothing to do with Fasano's 2 fumbles....Atlanta's defense popping his *** is what caused them...

Game planning had nothing to do with Pennington's INT....he was baited by a..........linebacker.....lol

When you're players can't go out and do what they're paid to do.....which is the basic things like block...tackle...cover...throw......etc.....

It's simple.....you lose....

First off J.Long was not drafted as a pass protecting LT, they would have selected Clady for that. They new ahead of time he needs work there and could develop over time into one of the best at LT. We did most of our offseason moves to gain a run advantage on over teams. Atlanta teed off for the pass, we we're getting an average just over 4 yards a pop on the run. This wasn't Baltimore, Tennessee, Wash or Pitts defense running into a brick wall - bad game planning.

Running the ball more would have changed alot, the pass rush would had to have slowed down to respect the run and in turn the playaction would have been alittle more open. You get away from the game plan when something is not working or something you didn't expect to work is killing your opponent. The run was still effective enough, the drop back pass was getting pressured all game long so why keep doing it, it only resulted in Penny throwing a bad interception under pressure - bad game plan. It was like trying to run the Wildcat against Baltimore after they showed us the first time we wouldn't be able to do it - bad game planning.

The fumbles being caused by hard hits is such a freakin' joke, if Fasano got knocked out cold then fine but he didn't. Every Sunday people line up and smack hard, holding onto the football is basic fundamentals.

You just made the point for me that I've been trying to get across all along...

If you're going to take a LEFT TACKLE with the #1 OVERALL pick.....it's a wise idea to place your emphasis on selecting the elite pass protector over the elite run blocker....EVERY TIME....

Pass protection on an individual basis is more about talent and technique....athletic ability....run blocking can be taught easier than pass protection....

There's a reason why I had Ryan Clady as the best left tackle in the draft....anyone guess why that was?

Secondly....and ironically....Pennington wasn't under pressure when he threw the interception.....just like he wasn't under pressure on ANY of the 4 picks he threw against the Ravens in the playoffs....

He was baited....

Rarely has any of Pennington's interceptions throughout his career ever been caused by pressure....he's not going to force something under pressure.....it's just the opposite...they happen on a play that he ISN'T under pressure....and he's baited into a throw...

On Fasano's first fumble....he got JACKED UP....it's not an excuse...and it's not a joke....it's a FACT.....it was the hardest hit in the NFL in week 1....

On Fasano's second fumble....he wasn't tackled that hard....he just fumbed.....and on this very play.....they finally had Smiley helping Long double team his man in pass protection....

Second guessing playcalling is the most subjective aspect in all of football....if the play works...it's great...if it doesn't...it sucks...

It's not the play that's called that matters as much as the EXECUTION of the play that's called...

I can tell you that I'm going to run the same play 17 times in a row and try to stop me....if my guys EXECUTE that same play that's called more often than your guys can EXECUTE the play call to stop it....I win...

If I dial up some gadget play that you've never seen before but my players don't EXECUTE it....(overthrow, underthrow, fumble the snap, etc..)....it's not the play call that was bad...it's the EXECUTION that was bad...

Running the ball is only effective if you can accomplish two things:

Avoiding 3rd down situations that you can't covert....

...or converting 3rd downs...

The YPC doesn't matter if you still can't convert 3rd and 3....

When you look at the make up of our team, you see we're not fooling anyone. We're built to pound the ball. Why we ever chose to allow Atlanta to dictate and make us get away from who we are is unacceptable.

I've said it many times. We need to pound the ball at least 35-40 times a game. We got 4 decent backs and a very good fb. We should be able to cycle them in and out and wear down that defense.

I'm not proving your point at all, I'm telling you what we have is what we have. We didn't select Clady we selected a run blocking LT that eventually will become well rounded. So I'm not second guessing the FO and saying we should have done something different. I'm also not calling out any specific play calls, it's the game plan I have a problem with. We don't have the Oline or skilled personel to drop back and throw all the time especially when the defense was teeing up on the pass. We went away from the run to early and paid the price for it in a loss.

If you try something you are not good at and the defense your playing is defending it well then execution becomes even more difficult to obtain i.e. square peg/ round hole theory and I never said execution was the problem. We needed to run the ball alot more and give ourselves a better chance top execute well.

You really should read my post again, your arguing alot of things I never stated or complained about.

I'm dealing with the team we have not the players we should have drafted or traded for. We built this team around solid defense and a run control offense so let's use and abuse the players at what they do best not what they have difficulties with.

I'm sure Henning will approach Indy in a run first and second manner or else we'll end up on the losing end again especially if they hit hard because apparently you fumble when you get hit hard.

Makes complete sense to the sane only apparently. Imagine how well our playaction pass would be for the big play if we establish the ground game.
