Like many of you I've been mystified and frustrated at the lack of any Guard being signed during the FA period. (Say what you will about OT BUMROD moving to guard...lol)

I was scanning the list of RFA Guards and saw that Ronald Leary of the Cowboys was tendered at a second round. The guy is 27 and on arguably the best OL in football right now. He's allowed a total of 10 sacks since starting in 2013 (over 31 games) and can reportedly hold his own against JJ Watt. (http://sportsday.dallasnews.com/dal...boys-re-sign-lg-ronald-leary-ot-darrion-weems)

I don't usually like to give up picks for RFA but I feel that the situation at Guard is desperate and that a second round pick would be warranted for a guy like this.

What do you think? Worth it? Do we really trust we will find a starter of this caliber in the draft?

:idk:

Hell No! Good coaches and QB's can gameplan and play around mediocre guard play. We should be able to find a mediocre guard in FA or the later rounds.

10 sacks since starting in 2013 (over 31 games) is better then what we have now. And no promise of getting something better in the draft. Having said that, I'm out. Maybe for a 3rd, but not a second.

Eh, rather work out a trade for him, somehow.

He would be a big improvement at LG.

Very strong, smashmouth guard. Would open lanes in run game. Pass blocking is ok.
Only reason why he isn't starting is cause Collins is very good, and untapped potential. Leary IMO is a good guard. As long as his knee stays healthy, he would fill our need at LG.

Edit: He was replaced by Collins due to suffering a groin injury week 1. Once he was healthy, Collins was playing too well to take off the field. He was inactive only because the Cowboys viewed him as a Left Guard only. With injuries across the board, and depth thin, they didn't want to use up an active roster spot for Leary when Berndeau was capable of backing up both guard spots and center.

everyone is clamoring to spend a 2nd round pick on a guard anyway. instead of relying on a rookie, we'd have some experience with youth and upside.

wouldn't bust my balls too much. would help us stay competitive this year and next year we could relish with our comp picks....

I wouldn't offer sheet him due to his left knee. He has a degenerative left knee condition, which made him go from a 3rd round grade to being undrafted in 2012. No signs, that I can recall of his knee worsening last year, but I would hate to give up a 2nd for a guy who may be on a accelerated timer. Conditional 2017 draft pick, and or a mid to late 2016 pick? Sure. 2nd? Nah.

Somebody, anybody, just bring one in for a workout at least

Its a good thought but for a second round pick I would simply prefer to take one of the many very good guard prospects in the draft.

Yea this is a no go.

Only one cheap year and have to give up a second rounder.

Much rather use a second to draft our own guy and get him for four cheap years.

2nd rounder? hell no

hell i wouldn't give them a 4th for him

I'm sure theyd trade him though

fair. didn't know that.

Based on what?

Based on the fact that the patriots won like 13 games last year with a terrible oline, good coaching and good QB play. There are others too. You might not win a SB but you can damn sure make the playoffs.

Dolphins history would prove otherwise...

No, dolphins history shows that we haven't had good coaching or good QB play.
