It looks like Timbo is done. Larry Chester is having trouble with his rehab and we cannot count on him.

Signing Traylor was a must, but we need ANOTHER Traylor type. Right now we have Carter starting at DT. We need another run stuffer to free Carter up a little bit and as insurance against Traylor getting hurt. We all know what happens when you put all of your eggs in one basket. We need to assume that Bowens and Chester are done and we need that big tough run stuffing DT to rotate in with Traylor in a pinch. That's what we should be combing the transaction wire for.

If you can't stop the run, you're doomed as a defense. Agreed all?

Well there's not much to choose from right now. There should be a few DT's being released sometime soon.

I think some people here are not giving Dario Romero, that's right, Dario Romero, enough credit.

That guy's intense, and he's not small. I think he fits in nicely in the rotation behind Keith Traylor, Kevin Carter and Larry Chester.

If saban doesn't sign any other DT, that's cause he trusts Chester's health and will keep Zgonia

Agreed. However we all know that Zgonina is not the answer in the running game. I don't think you take a chance with the Chester thing. What you do is, you get one of those solid, not spectacular youngins that are floating around the league - those 6 foot 320 lb guys that are good plugs, and you bring him in as insurance against Chester. Hopefully, larry bounces back from the injury and there's no problem, but you have to approach it conservatively and assume Chester is going to get injured again.

Zgonina is not the answer. When he was in there, our run defense suffered mightily.

I like romero. He's a good player and he is big enough, however I want another Romero-type. Remember, potentially, we could be without our top three DT's from last year - Robinson, Chester and Bowens.

Now our depth at that spot becomes an issue. With Traylor and Romero, we need a third beast to rotate in. Carter needs some time at DE, so he's not a long term solution at DT.

I would look hard at the Manny Wright situation. He might be a perfect pick up in the thrid round of the supplemental draft. Saban wants to store up Draft picks it's true, but when you can get a potential first round talent for a third round pick, you at least have to consider it.

robinson is not a huge loss imo.

True, but he was decent against the run.

Anyone know how the supplemental draft works btw? Is it public? Are the teams all gathered in one place for the selections etc.?

I agree. Good call. Romero has been climbing the depth chart every season.....

This could be his year to step up. With the gusy we have added, it's agreat opportunity for him, and I think he'll be a solid player for us under Saban....

PHINZ RULE!!!!

I don't think having a lot of big huge dl is that important in saban's scheme

doesnt matter whose scheme we utilize. stopping the run is important to all of them.
