Ok so instead of picking Ginn at 9...we could have called the Browns and said "we want a second round pick this year and a first round pick next year and we will give you our pick. if you don't accept we will take Brady Quinn." Then we would have had a first round pick next year and still have been able to draft John Beck and an OG like Justin Blalock or CB like Eric Wright. OR WE COULD HAVE TRADED SOME OUR BROWNS SECOND ROUND PICK AND OUR WELKER PICK TO TRADE UP AND GET GINN. Then next year draft anyone we want with the Browns pick. Looking at former first round picks of Cleveland in the last 10 first round picks they have selected: Joe Thomas and Brady Quinn (we won't talk about them) the other 8: 5 picks with 1 digit in them and 2 picks in the 10's and only 1 in the 20's.

so what do you think?

The browns wouldnt have traded that far up for Quinn. They barely wanted to trade up as far as they did.

not true they actually tried to trade with a bunch of the teams that drafted after us but they had no suitors

Only on Madden 07!!! Seriously, that's why they are the experts and we are just wishful thinkers.

We did well!! It will be all worth it when our defence cause some three and outs and Ginn return for some touchdowns. If Ohio State would have won the title, Ginn would have been the talk of the draft.

ginn will prove u wrong...did we reach...yes...did we try to trade down??? yes....did we get the player the FO has wanted all along?? yes...and now we have to stick with it...if it doesnt work then ask for his head....but if ginn and beck turn out to be studs...well

That's not true at all. In interviews, GM Phil Savage was quoted as saying his dream was to draft Both Thomas and Quinn in the 1st round if he could make it happen. Once Quinn slipped past the Dolphins, he was on the phone trying to swing trades. He was denied by everybody, but the Cowboys - who he was surpised by since he had no prior familiarity with Jerry Jones other than he had been in a few league meetings with him.

I'm sure they didn't want to chance losing Ginn by dropping back in the bottom of the 1st. I don't think Ginn would've made it past St. Louis.

I think we picked best player available and we filled a whole on offense and special teams. Based on college stats we have a player that has way more talent and speed then Wes. We got a 2nd and a 7th for Wes so I see the logic here. I looked at the next 10 picks after Ginn and none really caught my eye as a must pick. Yeah sure they could of helped, but all would have been reaches just as well in my eyes. Quinn wasn't picked for some reason but in the eyes of our FO we got a better rated QB in Beck that we can afford to have on the bench for a couple of years(Or maybe 1 year) and bring him in when he is ready.

Nailed it......:ninja:

There are reasons that he fell out of the Top 10. I like the kid and think he has some talents. I think his hype is far greater than his level of talent. The NFL has 32 teams and each one needs a starting QB every game. He does have enough talent to make the TOP 32. But I do not think he is going to be a TOP 10 QB in this league. Time will tell and I have been wrong before...:err:

I am a Hokie Fan and have seen what a WR that can also return kicks/punts can do for special teams. The game of football is won with Field Position and in the Trenches. We now have someone that can setup the offense with great field position or make a game breaking play. I would have taken Ginn over Quinn 10 out of 10 times.

I think you're missing one thing: Quinn was a distinct possibility for us at 9. For each team after us, although still a possibility he was less of one as their pick. We have a higher demand for the actual player they want to trade up for, therefore, we would have demanded WAY more than any other team who needed a QB less. The Browns would have never been able to afford such a move. Not only that, but to get the #9 pick would have cost a king's ransom (probably next year's entire draft). So coupled with our need to actually get a stud at #9 and the actual value of the pick, the Browns would have never been able to do it. As it was, the 22 pick was a steep price to pay. It takes 2 to tango.

Actually according to your theory, we still only "wasted" one 1st round pick on Ginn. By trading our 1st rounder for their 1st rounder next year and this year's 2nd rounder, that would leave us with only 1 first rounder still. The only thing we would have essentially gained from that trade would be a 2nd rounder...

it was reported by schefter that ginn was going to be selected by texans or rams in the next couple of picks..... soo there was no chance we could have traded down and got ginn. there is a post about this in teh draft forum.

It seems there might be a flaw in your theory. By offering the Browns the 9 spot, wouldn't Miami be basically admitting they have no interest in Quinn?? If so Cleveland knows they can wait on him to fall further and spend less. Plus if they asked for just a second and a first, people on this board would be criticizing Miami for not getting enough value for the 9 spot. And their would still be backlash for passing up Quinn via trade.

I think your just hating on Ginn and looking for a reason to hate even more by coming up with the idea that we wasted two firsts on him. No we didn't b/c last time I checked we still have our 08' 1st round draft pick.

Remember that, as soon as we passed on Quinn, reporters were already hinting that he could slide all the way down to the Cowboys pick...
