What positions, in order of being impressive, have we made strong from weak in two short off seasons?

in two seasons?

season one:

secondary

Good picks. I gotta add TE and FB. I believe that Fasano and Polite have Pro Bowl potential.

we'll do it this way
07 09
qb cleo/beck < pennington 09
rb chatman/booker < brown/ricky 09
fb maui < polite 09
te martin/peele < fasano/martin 09
wr booker = ginn push
wr ginn < bess 09
wr camirillo = camarillo push
LT carey < long 09
LG liwinski < smiley 09
c satale = grove push
RG nudukwe = thomas push
RT shelton < carey 09

offense i say 09 wins 8 with 4 pushes. if thomas can actually be healthy and play then 09 is an improvement in guard but we've never seen him in a reg season game. same goes for grove and sateale, if grove can stay healthy the entire year it would be an upgrade. i think this years greg cammy has a chance to be better than the one from 07 but we have to wait to see how he comes back from injury. and our other push would be if ginn has another season like last then hes pretty much egual to booker, chambers was traded mid season and in that case i would prob give it to 07 had chambers not been traded

defense
DE holiday > merling 07
DT traylor = ferguson push
DE roth = langford push
ROLB porter > roth 07
MLB thomas > channing 07
MLB crowder = akin push
LOLB taylor > porter 07
CB allen = allen push
CB lehan < green(davis) 09
CB daniels <davis(green) 09
S bell = bell push
S shulters < wilson 09

i think we ran more of a hybrid compared to a straight 3-4 defense so defense is a little tougher to scew. im gonna say that the 09 team has more potential since the 07 team was mainly polished vets but it will be wait and see, im just going from the end of 07 to opening day 09 but anyways it came out 4-3-5 (w/l/t) in favor of 07 on the defense.

ST
K feely < carpenter 09
P fields < fields(09) 09
KR ginn = cobbs push
PR ginn = bess push

special teams i think is clear cut with P/K i know most of the ones where we had the same player i left it as equal but i feel fields has improved since his rookie year. also even though ginn gave us the chance to score every time he fielded a kick (and i still wish he was returning just for that fact) but cobbs and bess we know what we are getting everytime and thats a consistent return, nothing overly flashy but consistency with returns.

of course coaching and front office are alot stronger now, i also feel that our intangibles are too since for the first time in a while we have momentum going into season. i know we had a little bit of momentum after sabans first season with the way we finished but no momentum or hype like we have now. but thats pretty much my position by position run down, now back to kicking some UFC tail.

weren't most of these players in their mid teens in 97-99? except for ferguson who was damn near 40 in 99.

Crump,

Great post. I agree with all other than Grove, Langford , and Merling.

Overall it is hard to beleive we have such a solid team. Sure hope it is not a fans rose colored glasses but I feel the team is very solid. My worries are if a starter goes down at the guard, NT or ILB positions. It really hurt us last year when that happened and thus those are the are areas of concern IMO.

front office and coaching staff by far are the best with out them none of the other changes probably happen. the weaknesses i see are wr with out a clear cut number 1 it's hard to say we don't need help. inside lb look i know crowder and akin are ok but that's just it ok we need guys who are around the ball every play and don't just disapper randomly during games. other then that not too many weaknesses. strenghts o line qb olb d line and secondary

yeah every position i gave a greater than for doesnt mean i think its a strength just that that position was either stronger now or then. if our OL stays healthy im in the same boat as everyone else, i think it will be a strong point, but one of two injuries on oline and we are in deep trouble. and even though i think that CB was a need i think we shouldve gotten an ILB in the first or second round as opposed to two CB's. crowder is out of place too often and with our bookend backers, when ferguson has to take a break noone is gonna be scared to run right up the middle on us with solai akin and crowder...granted i could be wrong because if they get past the 1st and 2nd lines of defense i know bell and wilson will be looking to put a helmet on them. but we are a very solid team if we have luck with injuries like we did last year.

I believe Murphy, picked as a bit of a project, will surprise. I believe Crowder is gonna be much better. On Soliai and Ayodele, it's hope more than belief.

On a different forum, we had discussed possibly moving Roth inside on some plays, and even Wake. The main problem, depending the formation, is that neither can cover a RB cming out of the backfield.

We could have a number of options with a Wild Shark.
