Weaver's plan at CB

The difference is the front 7 should be much improved leading to more and faster pressure which will only help the secondary, something we didn’t really have last year.
This is a great point........the lack of QB pressure last year helped expose those backfield weaknesses. If we can fix that this year with a healthy group up front, we will be doing a lot to improve the play of our CB's and Safeties

Pressure solves all especially if you can do it rushing 3 or 4 guys. You can have a secondary of revis, Deion, ed reed and Troy P and if you aren’t getting pressure within 3 seconds or less, you’re going to give up completions with todays rules and how they limit defenders.

Yeah not too worried. Defense was still good with two awful safeties, a career down year Ramsey and cb 2 remains the same since fuller missed half the season.

If we sign someone like Asante, great if not would love to see what we have in cam smith and a few other young guys. Just don’t really want to sign an older guy like rasul, build or let the younger guys grow for the future which will help the team much more than a stop gap vet.
Will this much improved front 7 be like the 84 Bears or 75 Steelers Curtain?

Led by, no doubt, that LB core?

I admire your optimism.

I mean I don’t think so but I’m pretty sure there’s a wide range between that and what’s needed for a successful defense.

Again we were I think 11th ranked last year with the worst ranked safety duo in the league, a career down year Ramsey and cb #2 essentially untouched as Duck filled in the half a season fuller missed all while only really having Sieler and pretty much a half of a season of chop as for whatever reason they kept him on a leash and only gave him a handful of rushes the first 6-8 games. Ogbah and Campbell are alright and overall good players but past their prime as rushers. I’d imagine a 60% recovered Philips is greater than Ogbah at this point in his career (back injury in 2022 really hurt his career) and a 75% Chubb would likely be a large increase over last year. Now add Grant into the mix which should give everyone less double teams and a full year of chop who’s more experienced and should continue to grow. On a side note I still don’t think most of this fanbase realizes just how good chop was last year. He wasn’t just good, his pressure rates were up there with tj watt, Micah parsons, Hendrickson and nick bosa and towards the end of the year he was turning those pressures into sacks.

With all that in mind I don’t think it’s unreasonable to be comparable to last year and rank around the 10-15 area. I don’t think they’ll be elite or carry the team but I don’t think the above is unreasonable. Less known names for sure but let’s not act like we are replacing great players from last year.

Here’s the thing. Teams hype up their own players, and teammates do the same. However, each year it seems there are at least a couple of guys who surprise everyone. That bottom of the 5th round LB or the 4th rd RB that just blow everyone away.

Please let this kid be one of those guys this year!! lol
We are due some good luck for a change.
