I'm usually a firm believer in deferring and receiving in the second half- but I am in the mindset we need to get the ball rolling quickly in Game 1 to get the home crowd energized and some confidence built. Our defense is better suited if we are playing ahead where the DEs can pin their ears back a little. I'd choose receive in game one, and cross our fingers that we can get some points on the board.

Thoughts? I haven't seen this discussed yet- figure it may be an interesting discussion on football philosophy rather than the usual arguments back and forth regarding the same handful of players.

Recieve. Keep the ball away from our linebackers for as long as possible

You always kick. I like the ball in the 2nd half

Normally I like to deffer but part of me wants to start with our offense out there. Nothing worse than to see your defense give up a long time drive for a TD on your first game

With our run defense, receive and keep Henry on the sideline a little longer.

I think I remember some absurd stat about our low scoring percentage on 1st possessions under Gase, possibly even as far back as Philbin.

Knowing our luck, if we received we would be 3 and out and the whole "protect the D" turns into "expose the D" (all game).

You defer unless you have a weak defense. If you are not confident your defense can get a stop on the first drive, deferring usually means you are playing from behind in the first half.

Since our defense is less than stellar, I would kick.

We need to start setting the tone of game with our offense. Deferring is the safe approach and it hasn't worked. Do something different for a change and bet on your offense.

I remember seeing a stat that the team that scores first has a significantly improved chance of winning the game. Take the ball first and score and fire up your defense.
If your offense can't score to start a game then build one that can.

Take the ball, with an always late arriving crowd there will be less people in the stadium, if you start on defense you don’t want that, you want an apex of sorts with crowd noise..so while it’s half empty let the offense go to work.

I’ve always been a receive guy. Put it on em and set the tone

But more importantly you play to the strength of your team. If I was coaching the ravens I would never let dilfer see the field before my defense did.

This team is designed to play w/ a lead. So go get a lead and play the game you want it played

You just contradicted yourself.

Receive 100%. Our team is built to play with a lead, our defense is shaky in the middle, which is a recipe for a long opening titans drive, and our offense needs a confidence boost. If we kickoff we start out down 0-7.
