'I think everybody lies at some point in their lives,'' receiver Wes Welker said. ``I think it's one of those deals where you maybe tell a girl she looks good when she really doesn't. I think it was . . . OK to tell that lie in order to get the results he needed.''

Wow. The article does state that Welker was one of the few players Saban called personally.

He was very hesitant with his answers. I doubt he can say what he'd really like to, or what he's really thinking about Saban's lies. It's a business and everyone has to play the politically correct game.

No need to get all high and mighty, he's talking about lying during the season so it wouldn't be a distraction to the team. These last few games would have been turmoil if Saban said he was leaving back then.

Can you honestly say you've never lied to avoid hurting someones feelings before?

there went my high esteem of welker...to condone dishonesty is despicable....Welker can ship out on the same plane as Saban for all I care...since he condones dishonesty and lies...t

Never told a lie? Wow.

yeah, really. like get off your high horses here. He did what was right. If he stood there a few weeks ago and said yeah, i want to coach alabama instead of miami next year, but ill finish out the season here. you all would have rioted then. get over it. grow up. football isnt a game anymore its a business. these things happen everyday. dont sit there and say youve never done even remotely similar because we all have. its just like the question when your wife/gf asks you if she looks fat in a certain dress... if you value your life... you lie and say no, of course not! you dont sit back and go yeah hunny... your *** is huge!! go work out before you ever put that thing back on!

sure it sucks that he's gone, but itsnot the end of the world. move on. its obvious the dolphins are with no hard feelings. so... just let it go

Because no one else besides Saban has lied.

Certainly no one else on this board has lied to spare feelings...
to get out of trouble....fudged just a teech on a resume...spun
a reciept a certain way to get more of a deduction on taxes....

:shakeno:

We certainly are a very moral group on this board.

Welker was just being PC, as you would expect him to. No reason to get down on him for crying out loud, he didn't abandon his team/fans/players/boss. 1 star thread.

To be a lying coward to anywhere near the extent that Saban was? No, I think the majority of us can take pride in knowing we probably couldnt be that hypocritical and cowardly if we tried.

So lieing is ok if it's just a little bit?

No, I've never lied.. oops! Lying's a fact of life. Do we all spend our time sermonizing about moral fiber and integrity. Demanding players to give their all when your sneaking out the backdoor. Everything in life has degrees and the level Saban took it to is unconscionable. If you cant see that, you should reevaluate your own moral compass.

Well, I believe Saban has lost a great deal of credebility for his
behavior. He'll never sell another book on leadership outside Tuscaloosa,
He'll never have another NFL HC job, his name will be synonimous with
failure on the highest level......I'd say he's lost alot. I would be surprised
if recruits listened to his spiel, and, I doubt he'll do very well at UA.

That said; I don't really see that big an issue overall. Yes, he clearly said that he would not be at Bama next year, but, at the time that may well have been true. None of us really know. As far as asking 100% from your players, well, they're pros, they should be doing that anyway.

As far as my moral compass, I'm just fine. I will do what's best for my family every single time. If what's best for me is in accordance, that's a bonus. Life is a big boy game, and, if one can't play, one will fail.

Fair enough. To me a hypocrite is the worst kind of liar. Saying a lie is one thing being a lie is worse. It's not only lies, it's acting like a gutless coward who insults people who even question his lies. What he's lost doesnt matter as much as what kind of man he is and considering the way he's acted he's not much of one.

It never is, but do you think Welker should've said something different? I don't condone it blah blah, Saban is a disgrace... He's not trying to be labeled a hothead.

I'm sure you never lied.

I don't think he's okay with Saban lying, I think he's okay with Saban leaving.

I think EVERYONE on the roster and the staff is okay with Saban leaving. They have been sheltered out of the media and themselves with Saban here.

They now can have their personalities back, which IMO, is a sign of good things to come. You read the articles, everyone is now laughing and smiling, it's a positive tone rather than a negative one in Dolphins' headquaters.

Time for some fun Miami Dolphins football, in 2007.
