49ers draft right behind us at 15. This offseason has left them with many holes, but none more glaring than ILB. This probably squashes any chances we can trade down 10 or so spots and draft a starting Mike.

49ers ILB Chris Borland has retired from the NFL after one season.

Borland, the 49ers' third-round pick last year, is calling it quits because of safety issues in the league, as he's concerned about the long-term effects of head trauma. "I just honestly want to do what's best for my health," Borland said. "From what I've researched and what I've experienced, I don't think it's worth the risk." Borland has been diagnosed with two concussions in his lifetime, but may have suffered others. He took over as a full-time starter in Week 7 as a rookie and racked up 107 tackles, two interceptions, and a sack while grading out as PFF's No. 4 inside linebacker. His and Patrick Willis' retirements put the 49ers in a severe bind at the position. Mar 16 - 10:13 PM

It depends where they have him on their board. He might not have slipped anyway. San Fran HAS to grab a starter at LB. Willis and Borland retire. You never know what Aldon Smith is going to do, and Ahmad Brooks seems like a headache they would like to cure.

Is Kendrick's their target or do the have designs on Perryman, McKinney, or others further down the board?

WOW... I am in awe. this kid was going to be good!!!

I think Kendricks might make it to you the 2nd round. He's overrated on this board IMO

If Kendricks is the best fit for us than take him at #14.

I think for the 49ers McKinney may be the better fit...they can coach him up but McKinney seems like a good fit in the 3-4.

Kendricks is the man. If we put him behind our d line!!!!!!!!!! We'd have an elite D for years to come. Gotta be strong up the middle before you can start worrying too much about outside.

That is a solid point-Kendricks might not physically fit the role of an ILB in a 3-4. Maybe we could still trade down and draft him.

good call.... I wonder if Dawson would be in their minds as well here.

I'd rather go on a blind date with a load of **** in my pants than have Miami draft Kendricks at 14.

I kind of thought the same thing when I heard about Chris Borland retiring. That was a huge surprise.

Whether or not SF would take Erik Kendricks at #15 is the question. Most mocks have him going late first round to Green Bay, but supply and demand means his chances of going higher seem good.

I was just hoping he was there for us at 14. Not sure why other boards have it available at the end of the 1st. We will have to wait and see I guess.
