So far this season Miami fans have already witnessed a close loss against the Jets, a crushing defeat to the Cardinals, and a blowout victory over the Patriots. In their first three games, Miami has looked like a different in each one. Ronnie Brown, who barely got any carries in his first two weeks of the season, tore through the Patriots for four touchdowns, and he threw for another. Miamis defense, who got carved up like a moist Thanksgiving turkey against the Cardinals, completely destroyed a Patriots offense that (while sans Tom Brady) at least looked effective against the Jets a week before.

So will the real Miami Dolphins Please stand up?

Let's just get one thing straight, we're not going to score 38 points in every game this season, and we're not going to give up 31 like we did against the Cards either. Our offense isn't that explosive and our defense isn't that implosive. We've got players on this team who can make plays, and thats a great start for a team that was 1-15.

Ronnie Brown coming back from his injury is nothing short of a medical miracle. he's not even supposed to be 100% yet, and he scored 5 tds in one game. Porter putting his foot where his mouth is was also another wonderful surprise. But the biggest surprise of this season actually has nothing to do with the Dolphins, it has to do with the lack luster AFC in general.

The AFC East
The evil empire, the NE Patriots, have fallen from their thrown. They may be able to get back to the playoffs, but they're not going to dominate this season like they have in the past. So who leads our division? The buffalo Bills, who to be fair are 4-0. But does anyone really fear Buffalo? Their last two games were come from behind victories to the RAMS and the RAIDERS. And then, the other team in the division, the New York Jets. A team miami almost beat in the final seconds of regulation. The jets had an impressive performance against the Cards yesterday, but they are only one game ahead of miami at the moment.

The AFC in general
Yesterday, the best looking team so far in the AFC, lost to one of the worst looking teams in the league when the Broncos lost to the Chiefs. That says it all. This year, with the patriots floundering, the colts looking lethargic, and the Steelers inability to block anyone, the AFC is open.

So where do we stand?
Miami isn't a playoff team, or at least, we shouldn't be. But that may not matter this year. The AFC is bad. I'm not sure how it happened but the power has shifted to the NFC in the blink of an eye. (Specifically the NFC East.) If miami plays as hard as they did against the patriots, they could find a way to win 8-9 games this season. Before the season I predicted 5, and while I'm personally going to stick to that, I do believe this team could prove me wrong. With the rest of miamis schedule, and the fact that even the top teams in the AFC look beatable, it is very possible for Miami to make the playoffs.

I'll say this... the jets chose a good year to mortgage their future on one season.

Damn i hate those guys.

yeah, things to seem to be "falling" into place for the jets, and makes their decision to bet the "house" on favre look like a smart one, but the thing is, things are open for anyone in the AFC, not just the Jets.

Actually, right now today -- outside of winning the division, i don't see the PATS making the playoffs this year .... the division right now is highly suspect !

You forgot about the Titans. That defense is awfully impressive. Fisher is probably one of the most under rated coaches in the league

the nfc east has been the best division in the last 3 three years imo...

The one thing i really want to see that i haven't thus far is a powerful, effective running game that you can count on week in and week out... the wildcat show was good while it last, but this formation cannot be the bread and butter to success, teams will adapt to it and shut it down.

Very true, but if they dont win the superbowl they very well could have put their selves in financial hell for the future. I would much rather build slowly and have a good team for years than gamble and ruin the franchise for years.

Heres to bad gambles
