I remember how Jim Haslett criticized Tebucky Jones when he was traded basically saying that the guy can't cover and isn't that good. As dolfans, many of us fired back at Haslett talking about what an a@@ Haslett is, etc. etc. In hindsight, could Haslett have been right? I know Jones is a bit injured but all I've read and seen has not made Jones discredit his critics. In some ways, I can see him not make the team if he keeps it up. I'd rather keep a younger guy that may make the same mistakes that Jones has been making but at least he has a chance to improve. Personally, I'd love for a playmaker to fall out of the sky and into our laps but I doubt that's going to happen.

I agree, supposedly Jones was dinged, however, he played Monday. IMO you shouldn't be out there if it is going to hinder you that bad.....because he looked awful. Late on every play in his area and sluggish.

I don't care what the "wait and see'ers" are saying here, our secondary is in serious trouble. I think it is going to be this years "2004 offensive line"

Anyone who has seen Jones play knows that his weakness is in the coverage area. That was the knock on him when he came to NO and is still the knock on him. The reason why he was enticing to Miami, is that under the right scheme, you can hide that deficiency somewhat. Saban, like BB schemes allow you to take a guy like Jones and be somewhat successful. We'll see as to whether it works out. He was considered one of the better safeties when he left NE...But you have to figure that Jones and Tillman are stop-gap guys for Saban until he can get the guys he really wants...I still say that he wanted to move Daniels to FS (similar to what JJ did with Wooden). But when Poole got hurt, that ended that idea for this year at least.

I am more concerned with CB than I was before this game tho...Howard, who I have been a supporter of, played terribly...Daniels was a little better, but against the 2nd and 3rd string offenses. Edwards was, well Edwards...poor too. We need at least one group (CBs or safeties) to establish themselves. This game was, IMO, a good opportunity for Saban to experiment and put some different people out into different positions to see how they would do, but now he'll have to start getting a more fixed idea of who and when his D players are going to be...

That is the kind of SS Jones is. He is the kind of guy who could never make it in the NFL as a LB (ala Tony Bua). So they just move him to safety. He can not cover, but he makes highlight reel hits.

i think that if you are injured, but can still play better than the guy behind you, than play.

but i didnt really notice him in the bears game.

I agree with that. If you still perform better than the competition, then what is the point in playing the competition. I believe in a game you always play the players that offer you the best to chance to win. Regardless of anything else...

best chance to win? a preseason game is where you decide who makes the team, if miami wanted to win, they would have put the starters in the last 7 minutes rather than the guys that are going to be cut in a month.

LOL, but who plays the 1st quarter? The guys who offer the best chance to win. Then they should make return appearances throughout the game. Of course you still play other players in the other 3 quarters. But in the end who starts? The guys who offer the best chance to win. Especially in Miami. Our starters are just as much competing as our 2nd, 3rd, and even 4th string players.

Jim Haslett is an idiot, but he's right about tebucky. Average at best is all you can hope for from him. Unfortunately, average at best is better than anything we have or can find right now.

You're right!!! I was wondering who 24 was becuase he was having a rough game. I was dissapointed when I found it was lucky Tebucky.

Any lead we have in the first half this year will be in jeopardy due to our lack of safeties who can cover - hopefully, Ronnie and Ricky can eat some clock up or Linehan keeps the pressure on in the second half - unlike Wanny who seemed to turn the offense off after getting a 7 point lead.

I would expect guys like T-buck to not play in ovbious passing situations. I'd liek to see Shulters at SS, and Bell at FS, during those times. But even those two don't provide the best deep cover. I just hope your wrong about that...

hard to tell when we've played just one preseason game and hes only practiced a few days with some injuries...

Isn't Shulters known for his ball hawking and cover skills? I know that he's had a couple of off years but I know that before his injuries he was quite the playmaker.

What about the other 8 years we've seen him play?
