A month ago many on this board (including me) and the media felt the Dolphins had good players and had a good shot to make the playoffs. So what happened? Were we all that wrong and the Dolphins did not have a good team or did they just get that bad in a month? Or do the Dolphins basically have a good roster that was ill prepared and/or unmotivated to compete due to lack of proper coaching, utilization of players, and game planning?

Imo its a combination. The o-line is not NFL caliber and as such the offense has been limited. The d-line has been under performing, and poorly coached setting the table for other defensive deficiencies to be exploited.
I have no expectations for the remainder of the season, but I am hopeful we learn where the truth lies.

What say you?

I say I had a lingering anxiety that we would **** the bed. when we lost to the Jaguars I was not exactly shocked

the basis for my anxiety was our OL, MLB, head coach and razor thin depth

I did not dream that our defense would suck so hard

I am completely clueless at what happened. My only hesitation coming into the season was that Philbin had not proven to be anything special. But everything seemed like it could only trend up. This season has been a slap to the face. I mean one sack in 4 games?! NOBODY would have predicted that. Nobody.

Own it!

This past week has been crazier than Mt Toad's Wild Ride. Was waiting to see what axe fell today...

I always knew that with Philbin running his style of offense and defense Miami would never see the playoffs. I've complained about Philbin ever since he was hired and caught a lot of flak for it. It's nice to see that I was right (which doesn't happen often enough), but I hate that 4 years have been wasted because Ross fell for Philbin's fancy binder!

I had high hope but could never get by Joe, Coyle, the guards and the situation at LT.

Never envisioned the Dline being this bad. Never ever.

It's simple and it's a common characteristic of fandom: overestimating the talent of your own players while underestimating the talent of other teams' players.

We all glossed over the coaching which we all already knew was a problem. It's amazing now that we've all been slapped back into reality to look at this coaching staff and see how far below it is the quality teams in this league.

There are major issues with the roster too that we let just slip by because we trusted the decision-makers. Big mistake.

Hope springs eternal and that's ok-- we all love football and it sucks to think that your favorite team is out of it before the season even begins. I definitely thought Philbin should have been fired last season, and that Suh is a great player, but his impact on the defense was being greatly overestimated. And pretty much everyone thought the offensive line was a problem. Turned out to be a fatal one for the offense.

My worst case scenario came true, unfortunately. Suh wasn't a panacea for the defense, and this team performed as poorly for Joe Philbin as the 2011 team performed for Tony Sparano.

Twice in five seasons Ross makes the same mistake-- extending a coach a year past their expiration date-- and twice it blows up in his face and the season is lost as a result.

Two things. For one, we should have known when Albert was out this team would drop off a cliff; it happened last year. Look at Tannehill's passer rating last year with both Albert & Pouncey vs. without them. Two, the D quit after the Jax game. It was like the straw that broke the camels back, the D just doesn't buy what the coaches were selling. It's similar to last year for UM, they just gave up.

I believe we will see a better team against the Titans just b/c we have Albert & Sims back but also b/c the D will at least give some more effort with a new staff. I don't believe the talent level on this team is only 4-6 wins. A well coached team with this talent level is minimum 8 wins, but we are already 2 in the hole behind .500 with a touch schedule coming up soon.

Although I was pretty psyched....... in the back of my mind I knew, just freakin knew, that we did not fix the REAL PROBLEM. Phailbin. When the real bullets flew reality came back...we had the worst coach in The NFL. NOW they fire him.....typical Dolphins. Too slow and wasting time. This guy shoulda been one and done ala Cam Cameron. He was out of his league. Another year WASTED.

"If you give a guy 'screw you' money you better make sure he doesn't 'screw you'" -- Mike Westhoff on Suh.

Yup and it was always going to be a tough sell. If you could get the players to buy in and be selfless I think it could have worked, but you needed a top offense. Not average. Definitely not poor. But with a top ten offense and that defensive philosophy we would have won a lot of games over the years.

This season no pass rush combined with terrible corner back play opposite Grimes was disastrous. The terrible corner back play was a lack of talent, and the lack of pass rush was due to a lack of heart.

Right? I was telling ppl before the Skins game Cousins was going to get destroyed. Didn't even mean that in a homer, aqua-colored glasses way. My best football analysis thought we were going to dominate at the LOS. Couldn't have been more wrong lol

This is what happens when you give a dumb coach chance after chance, a very limited QB that you almost benched last year a Franchise contract, and ignore lots of obvious needs like OG, backup LT, MLB and K.

I think everything starts with coaching and we had the worst one of the league. The most important position is the QB and I just dont see anything special with Ryan, and I believe his limitations are very hard to compensate, his pocket awareness is just awful and he lacks touch on his passes, you need a special RB and OL to get away with those kind of limitations and we add WR ignoring RB and OL like he is the second comming of Aron Rodgers! Big mistake!
