Now that the Jeff Fisher courtship is over the coaching search must continue. Some of us were dissapointed that we did not land Fisher, and some of us were happy that we didn't land him, but either way we must find the right man for the job. There are a lot of different names being thrown around on here like Mike Zimmer, Joe Philbin, Rob "Chud", Peter Carmichael Jr., ......We all have our own opinions on what type of coach we want and that's fine, were all fans on here and it's healthy to have these debates, we all want the best for this team, but no matter who we pick lets remember that a Head Coach needs to have certain important quality's to lead a team.

A lot of people on here have suggested guys like "Chud", Joe Philbin, and Carmichael Jr., were all intrigued by their offensive backgrounds and their ability's to work with a QB and bring a high-powered offense to the Phins, we all want to find that next young & hungry coach, and that's just fine, I'm all for that. But just because a coach has a good offensive background and is a good offensive Coordinator does not mean that person can be a head coach. Now I'm not saying I want a defensive minded coach, I just want the right guy for the job. I will never forget when we hired Cam Cameron, I was so excited because we already had a good defense under Dom Capers, but now we were getting that offensive coach with the innovative mind, but the mistake we made was the fact the Cameron was not a head coach. I will never forget the story about a fist fight on a team flight coming home from a game, Keith Traylor and another dolphin player got into a fist flight on the plane and cam cameron was sitting near the back of the plane, everybody expected him as the leader of the team and the head coach to get up and stop the fight, implore some discipline, but no, he slumped down in his seat and avoided the whole situation not saying one word, he allowed assistant coaches to break up the fight, that right proved to me that he was not head coach material and not a leader of men. Yemeriah Bell said something interesting about 2 months back, he said the team did not respect cameron and "quit" on him, cameron lost the lockeroom, but he said the players and team did not quit on sparano because they respected him, he commanded the lockeroom, sparano was not a great coach but he earned the players respect.

That is the point I'm trying to stress here, a Head Coach needs to be able to be a leader of men, he needs to be able to command a Lockeroom right when he walks in the room, he needs to be disciplined and keep things in order, he needs to be able to put together a quality coaching staff, he needs to earn the players respect and respect his players as well. The guy that intrigues me the most is Mike Zimmer, I have seen this guy interact with players, he is disciplined and commands respect, I have seen him on the sidelines and seen the attention the players give him when he speaks, he is well respected around the league and would be able to put together a good coaching staff, and this is not an endorsement of Zimmer, but I think this guy can lead men, and that is important, Chuck Pagano is interesting as well. In no way am I saying that guys like chud, carmichael, or philbin cant be head coaches and lead men, but just because they run good offenses does not mean they can be a head coach, we don't need another cam cameron, I just hope we choose the right guy!

The OP is absolutely 100% dead on. I like the idea of a innovative offensive mind to lead this offense. The men mentioned in his post (Philbin, Carmichael Jr., Chud) would be ideal for this. That would qualify them as OC's. I think we need this type of offense but I think the HC must be in control of all aspects of the entire team.

That player Traylor fought, if I'm not mistaken was Vernon Carey. Then he kicked Traylor off the team, and JT and ZT were so mad at him he asked Traylor to come back, and Traylor refused.

Also, don't forget the time Joey Porter essentially chewed out Cameron in front of the entire locker room, and Cameron just stood there and took it until Porter finished. And instead of putting Porter in his place, just said something along the lines of "ok, I'm glad we got that out of our system. Now let's move on and focus on next week"

Lets do our best not to hire another Cameron. For the record, I doubt any of the current candidates could be THAT bad. Hopefully we get Zimmer, I think he is a great leader as well and will be a good HC for somebody. I hope is us.
