I saw Bulger on Inside the NFL and they were talking about Bulger being a FA after this season. He said he'd very happy to stay in St. Louis and back up Warner another 3 or 4 years, but he does stand to make a lot of money going somewhere else to be a starter, more than the Rams will be willing to pay for him to continue backing up Warner.

I think Miami would be wise to get in the mix for this guy. People say Bulger is just a product of the Rams system, well, so is Warner, and he had them 0-5 before being injured. Bulger is 4-0 since taking over. The difference between him and Warner is that Bulger is making all of the throws that Warner wasn't, and nowhere near the TOs Warner had. I've watched Bulger play, he's got a strong arm that can make all of the throws, he's very smart, very accurate, and has a lot of poise. The guy looks like a seasoned vet, not a 3rd string QB in his 2nd year.

Don't get me wrong, I like Fiedler and have been defending him since he came to Miami. But I've always considered him a QB that would be good enough to get us wins, until a better QB comes along who would be available. I think Bulger could be that QB. He could at least back-up Fiedler next season.

Does anyone doubt we'd be at least 7-2 right now with Bulger backing up Fiedler instead of Lucas?

:monkey: Lucas

I think that unless we get rid of Fiedler and his contract.....we aren't able to afford a contract that a QB desperate team is likely to offer Bulger.....I'm not sure I would want Bulger over Fiedler either. I would be much happier if we drafted a QB next year(it doesn't matter which one, no body knows which one is going to be THE ONE so one is just as good as another as far as I am concerned.....can I say one one more time? ) and found a cheap veteran in free agency to bring in for camp next year.
I think a rookie, Sage, Jay, and Mr. X will give us hope of finding the NEXT ONE while at the same time keeping our current QB situation stable and safe.

Bulger would be no better than Fiedler - in fact he'd be worse, because....he's a product of the Rams system - he's in the right place to succeed. It's a cliche, but it's true. I think Warner has maybe two more years and I think someone will drastically overpay for Bulger in the off-season and get a real shock. He'd be much better off staying for 2 years behind Kurt and then taking over the helm and leading the Rams re-tooling.

Bulger a system QB? All I know... is that Warner, the ULTIMATE system QB, was horrifyingly bad in that system this year. Jamie Martin was ineffective. Bulger has been playing very well... taking much smarter risks than Warner, and actually being able to make the throws, too.

I think this guy is a legitimate diamond in the rough.

When I see Bulger playing he reminds me a little bit of a QB that I won't name for fear of ridicule at making the comparison. But suffice to say, right now Bulger seems to be in a "Pick a guy and let it fly" stage. We used to have a QB that did that... If Bulger could mesh well with the recievers we have/will bring in, then he could be huge. The Kid has arm strength to spare, can make all the throws, tosses a very catchable ball, and makes smart quick decisions in the pocket, AND has the ability to improvise when things break down.

As much as I would love to see him as a Dolphin next year, I just don't think we would be able to afford him. (No knock on Jay either, I just think that this kid is that good from what I have seen from him)

I think that sometimes people are a little quick to give a 'system' all the credit. Whatever the system may be, a QB still has to make the correct reads, run the offense, unload the ball quickly and accurately. The very fact that Bulger opperates in the Rams' system shows that he must have the smarts. There are some FA offensive players who are dismissed by St Louis because they simply don't have the intelligence to play within their scheme (although Terrence Wilkins was brought in, but has done little). Hell, weren't Dan's stats a 'product of the system'.

Its going to be interesting to get a look at the Rams on prime time TV this week. From what I have seen from Bulger so far though, he demonstrates some very good attributes.

I also prefer the idea of trading for, or signing FA QBs. That would seem to offer a much probability of hitting on a solid player than through the draft route. There are just too many busts at the QB position to 'reach' for one. Hell, if you are prepared to give up a 1st rounder to draft a guy, why not do so to trade for an established veteran??

Do or do not....there is no try

It's hard to judge Bulger, b/c of the talent that surrounds him. I do believe that he would do, at the very least, a repectable job here, but I would stick w/ Jay for next year if it were up to me. Bulger will also be demanding big bucks, most likely.

Any Qb for the Rams is good. With Players around you like Faulk, Bruce, Holt, how can you not be good.

i know BUlger isnt as good as everyone thinks but he isnt as abad as some people say....

Do you really think Lucas would be any better if he were QBing for the Rams right now?

Like someone else pointed out earlier, you can have the best talent in the league surrounding your QB, but he still has to get the ball to them. Bulger does. Warner and Martin didn't. Bulger can make all the throws. Short, deep, crossing routes, slants, it doesn't matter. And he is very poised.

Those that doubt Bulger's abilities obviously haven't seen him in action. All I can say is tune in Monday night and have a look for yourself.

BTW---last Sunday Bulger threw for 453yds and 4TDs, and brought the Rams back from a 10 point deficit with less than 5 minutes to play against San Diego, for the win.

Lucas would do a little better but the KEY is any decent qb for the Rams can be good. Lucas doesn’t fit that category.

Warner may be the ultimate system QB, but that system designs so many reads and routes for defenders to deal with that on almost every play there is an open receiver and that makes a huge difference. Bulger is a good player, but he's what, 3-0, 4-0 on a team with Marshall Faulk, Torry Holt and Ike Bruce as it's three main weapons. Lets not make him Joe Montana just yet, huh.

The thing about Bulger is the fact that he's hitting theese guys in stride, making the necessary adjustments himself, putting the ball where only his reciever can get at it. Oh and don't forget that last week he was without Marshal Faulk, so people that say he has to have Faulk can't use that.

People that say that any QB can succeed in the Rams system must remember just how much success Warner was having earlier this year before he went down to injury. 8 INT's and only 1 TD... Lucas is putting up better stats than 'ol Kurt was.

no question.................

do any of you honestly think that jaY friggin' fiedler could go to the rams even with the systeM and talent they have and throw a 453 yd game like bulger did?

never in a million years!! half those timing, quick read throws down the field would have been pics, that kinda stuff is just not fiedlers game [as norv has now found out].

mark bulger has some serious game, let's get a guy like that rather than throw a unknown drafted qb [that everyone seems to think we will do] next year. i mean do we really want to draft qb in the 3rd or 4th round next year and hope he becomes a legit starter? i don't.

they should have tried sage to see what we have. but a proven guy like bulger would be great to get in here.

and fiedler would be a great back up. re work his deal after signing bulger and bada bing!!
