I don't want to make this another Manning thread, so regardless whether he ends up in South Beach or not, what do you think of the Dolphins possibly signing Jeff Saturday? (admittedly, it'll likely be easier if Manning is in the mix to get him here)

My reasoning is, while not what he once was, Saturday still considered a top 10 center by many and his presence would allow the Dolphins to move Mike Pouncey to one of the G positions thus filling a need. While we'd all like a young, 22-year old ALL-Pro at every position across the line, adding an experienced, veteran lineman could be invaluable even in itself. Whatever Saturday's physical limitations at his current age are, they aren't as bad as the limitations the Dolphins had at G last season. Pouncey would be a HUGE upgrade at either G position.

Thoughts?

I mistakenly added this to the wrong forum. Can a mod help out and move this thread to the Dolphins forum?

My bad.

*BUMPING* this thread now that it has been moved to the correct forum (thanks Nublar!). Anybody have any thoughts?

I think Saturday could be a great addition, regardless who is at QB. His experience could be invaluable and Pouncey's strengths may very well be maximized moving to LG.

Been discussed in the many Manning threads but I prefer to not stunt the growth of Pouncey at center.

we would quickly become the green bay colts

Not much of a fit. We're not moving Pouncey to guard, no matter how many amateurs think it's the right move (it's not). And Jeff Saturday isn't playing any posistion other than center.

I agree, you draft Pouncey to be a Center, you wanna keep him there . . . he played well last year.

But to dismiss the idea is a bit premature. It obviously would be an asset to have Jeff snapping the ball to Peyton and yea I personally feel Mike Pouncey would be a tremendous LG . . . you essentially could strengthen 2 spots by making the move.

Point I'm trying to make is, if Peyton Manning wants Jeff Saturday to come to Miami . . . the fact that Mike Pouncey would have to move from OC to LG wouldn't be the reason why it doesn't happen.

At first glance, moving Pouncey to guard is a bad idea. But, he can always be moved back in a couple of years. Pouncey can still rotate with Saturday and be the top back up. Pouncey would be a terrific guard with his mobility. As was mentioned, Saturday is still a good player and it would add a level of comfort having his center(Saturday) and favorite WR (Wayne)on the team. You cannot discount that arguement. If we are going with Manning, we need to go all in.
Having Saturday join the team would fill the hole at guard with Pouncey, and we have Murtha, Garner, and Carey to compete for RT and back up positions. Plus we can draft another RG/RT in the 2nd or 3rd round to groom for for the day that Saturday departs and Pouncey resumes at center. At this point, we will have excellent depth, veteran experience, and youth rising in the wings. What was a weakness will become a strength.

Gotta love the condescending "amateur" smack (as if he doesn't belong to the group). That surely put me in my place.

Apparently other amateurs, such as yourself, didn't notice the problem Pouncey had with snaps last season (which was the knock on him all throughout the draft process). Also, while even the experts aren't always correct, you seem to ignore that many of them believe Pouncey is better suited to play guard. That doesn't mean he can't play center or develop into an elite player at that position. However, given the teams current needs, adding a veteran center and moving him to guard to fill a big hole is not THAT far-fetched of an idea. And it in no way means that Pouncey would never play the center position again. It simply could be a short-term fix for the next year or two.

As for it being the "right" move. How would you possibly know?

This echoes my thoughts and is why I brought up the idea. Apparently I'm not the only amateur that believes it could be a good move.

Couldnt help but notice that myself lol. Pouncey's very young, he can be moved to guard for now. The guy played both positions in collge for pete's sake.

If the Dolphins draft David DeCastro with their 1st round pick or are able to land Carl Nicks via free agency, then I agree that Pouncey should stay where he is. However, if a competent LG cannot be obtained, adding an accomplished center like Saturday and moving Pouncey, who played the guard position at Florida until his brother left early for the NFL, is certainly another way to go. At LG, the Dolphins can take even more advantage of his ability to pull and block out in space.
