We all know that Miami had a ton of cap room to make some moves. However, it seems as if Miami won't use all the cap space this year. I know for sure cap space doesnt roll over to next year. Lets say at the end of the day, after we sign our draft picks, we still have 15 million in cap space, why not sign one of those 1 year deals of a prove it with MJD, Revis, Chris Johnson, etc...

Pouncey, Odrick and Clay all are heading into the last year of their contracts. Extensions. Besides it is just the start of the off-season. We aren't just done signing people.

it does roll over...

Under Article 13, Section 6(b)(v) of the CBA, each team may carry over any remaining cap room from one year to the next by submitting written notice, signed by the owner of the team, to the league office no later than 14 days before the start of the next league year. The written notice must indicate the maximum amount of cap room that the team wishes to shift from one cap year to the next.

Saving space in one year will help us re-sign our guys coming off rookie contracts in the near future like Clay, Odrick, Pouncey, and Tannehill.

I did not know that. Good research.

I don't think they are trying to save it. As it has been discussed the clock is ticking on Philbin and many Tannehill to a lesser degree (I'm sure he will be a starter 4 years regardless). I'm a believer in they have sights and offers on guys now but agents and players are taking other options as well trying to decide.

I don't know about the benefits but Ireland can fill you in on the perils...

Don't they also get a bonus for being a certain amount under the cap? :ponder:

Pouncey definitely deserves an extension... Odrick and Clay I would want to see what they're about next year... don't want to throw them money like Reshad Jones...

yes, but rollover does not rollover. the dolphins have 18m in rollover from 2013. if they do not use it in 2014 it DOES NOT rollover to 2015. whatever the dolphins end up under the 2014 cap - if at all - is what they can rollover to 2015. the cap is 133 and we are at 120-124 right now depending where you get your info. so its not likely we will be under 133 this season and therefore there will be no 2015 rollover. so in other words, we can go 18m over 133m for 2014 but will have to be under the estimated 140m 2015 cap.

IMO we need to sign Clay to a long term deal NOW before he becomes really good and ask for a hell of alot more , because if we dont get him signed this is just whats going to happen , and if we can give Odrick an extention , go for it but Clay for sure..

1) June 1 cuts
2) Working extensions and so on with currently signed players
3) Allows for greater flexibility during the season for FAs

This also could be the organization preparing for down the road as Tannehill is still on his rookie contract and possibly looking to carry some money forward for the next year or two so in 2016 they have money to resign him to a new contract with out killing the budget.

Thats if Tannehill is franchise. IMO the jury is still out on him. This is the last year I'm giving him.

Philbin may have a clock ticking but Hickey doesn't. He's not going to bury us in cap hell just to save Philbin's ass. Hickey has to have a long term plan.
