Brian Flores talks in the wake of a rocky weekend for the Dolphins.

DAVIE — Dolphins coach Brian Flores’ comments to the media Monday:

– Flores on cutting LS John Denney: John has done a tremendous job for this organization for a long time. I’m very appreciative of the time I’ve spent with him. At end of the day, we felt like this was a move we needed to make.

– On if he knew there would be this much change in talent when he took the job: Says you do what you feel is best.

– On what he’ll tell the team: “I’ve addressed that with the team.” Says his conversations with the team stay private.

– On message to fans: “We’re going to come out, practice, prepare, work and do everything we can to win this game on Sunday against Baltimore.”

– On personnel moves: “I spent four years in personnel, so I know what that part is like.”

– On how to put together an offensive line: “We’ve got what we have. We’ll add Davenport to that. We also have two new guards. It’ll be a challenge but we as a coaching staff, we have to meet that challenge.”

– Confirms DT Vincent Taylor was cut today.

– On LB Kiko Alonso: Passes on the question.

– On dealing with Hurricane Dorian: Team is still watching hurricane, has a plan in place if they have to make a move.

– On message to the team: “The more energy we give to everything going on, the less we give to Baltimore.”

What else do people expect the HC to say??

It's obvious what Miami is doing, but he's literally not going to come out and say that out loud.

I like him, the team will be lean. He's much more like JJ than any coach we've had since then.

I still think that if JJ would have traded Marino he would have had much more success here.

It's going to be an interesting season that's for sure.

All the folks with their emotional outrage knobs stuck at ten might want to stay in their safe spaces.

The tanking crew strike me as the kinds of folks that only actually TRY when they are favored to win.

It's ALL ABOUT the competition, like Marshawn Lynch used to say... It's all about that action boss.

I'm excited about THIS season.

The draft is next year, but damn that is going to be a sweet draft when we get there.

Not sure if I feel guilty saying this: I like this team’s blunt message that no one is safe. I can’t think of a greater motivator than “good luck finding another team if the ‘lowly Dolphins’ cut you”. If I were a player I’d be going 110% each play to prevent that.

Some of these a scheme cuts, but the team has done right by those players thus far coming out and saying that to the beat reporters.

This team is low on talent but couldn’t be higher on players who are inherently trying to prove they belong in this league. It’ll be interesting to see how a self-motivated roster like this shakes out.

He seemed very confident, more so than I've seen him in any of his previous videos. I think they know they made the right, correct and only logical decision with the Tunsil trade. I think they have to feel like they bullied the Texans around with that deal.

Am I crazy for thinking that if a couple things go right that this defense might keep us in nearly every game?

No, not crazy, I think. This is shaping up to be the most disciplined team we've fielded in a long time. That discipline applies to a lot things, not just avoiding pre-snap penalties. It can also include awareness and execution. Two attributes that have little to do with physical talent. This year, they may not give us enough edge to overcome all, but they could very well make us much more competitive than expected.
