Penny is still a nice field general and we gotta love having him, but he still can't get it deep enough for a Ginn fly pattern.
Henne is accurate with a strong arm but still needs to be more prudent with his decisions. Overall though, he does look like he can be a good starter in the NFL.
Pat White is a gamer. He had been throwing high all summer in camps but was dead on with his accuracy in the game. Every single one of his passes should have been caught. I think he had about 4 or even 5 drops by his receivers including the one by Kimble that was picked. Pat also gets exactly what he needs when he runs i.e. 1st downs! Pat is ready to help us now in the wildcat and will give Henne a run for his money for the future starting QB job.
Ronnie looks like Ronnie which is to say a tough running, complete back who unfortunately, just does not have the natural RB gifts of a guy like Ricky. Both will contribute in a likely 50/35/15% split (Ronnie/Ricky/Pat) this year in the running attack.
TE is status quo. Didn't see much from Nalbone and doubt Wilford makes the roster (although cap ramifications could be in his favor.
Ginn is coming along very nicely. For all of our crying and moaning about Cam/Mueller drafting him 9th overall, he should eventually prove to be a good pick. He is just one of those finnese/speed WRs who take a few year to develop (more Joey Galloway than Anquan Boldin). He also might look better with a QB who can get the ball over the top.
Bess will lead the team in catches with Penny using him as his security blanket all year.
Camarillo will be fine and will help us but he should be brought back slowly/cautiously.
Turner and Harline were good picks where we got them. Our WR core now has size and depth b/c of them. Turner needs to work on those hands though (at least 3 drops).
London and Armstrong will be cut.
Chris Williams should also be cut (hopefully making it to the PS though). I hate to say that b/c I know he is getting a lot of love here but 1.) he bobbled every ball he touched and fielded a punt inside the 5 yard line and 2.) we have limited roster space with Pat White needing to be active on game days and 3.) Ginn should be the KR and Bess (or dare I say Sean Smith) should be the PR.
OL and DL feedback will follow after I re-watch the game but feel free to add your own thoughts. (I did think Tony McDaniel looked as good as, if not better than Soliai but again, not too sure yet).
JT, Porter and Wake will be NASTY this year!!!
Sean Smith is the steal of the draft! Thank gawd we got him even after trading down in the late 2nd round. A gamer with elite size, good enough speed and awesome ball skills! I'm tempted to see him in PR/wildcat but I guess a starting CB job is probably enough for now.
Vontae Davis reminds me exactly of his brother Vernon; million dollar body with a $0.10 brain. CB was our need (especially after losing Goodman for Eric Green) and Vontae was considered a good value at 25 but man, I think we're looking at years for him to mature (just like Vernon in SF). I think we might end up regretting not trading up just two spots for Ole Miss OT Michael Oher who looks absolutely dominant for BAL (drafted at pick 23). Our OL would be ridiculously nasty with great depth if we had him starting at OG with Donald Thomas and Smiley battling it out for the other OG job.
Gibril Wilson and Yeremiah Bell make a formidible safety due.
Not liking our DB depth too much but would like to see more of Chris Clemmons and (gulp) Jason Allen.
If we have an extra roster spot for any offensive player, I actually like Lex Hilliard more than Chris Williams or Wilford or London. But again, with Pat White needing to be active on game days (along with Henne), I don't see that extra spot being there for anyone.
Please add your own...
