Dolphins Sign Mitchell; Bundren Undergoes Surgery
May 28, 2002


The Miami Dolphins today signed offensive tackle Corey Mitchell as an undrafted rookie free agent. In addition, Dolphins guard Jim Bundren underwent successful arthroscopic surgery on Friday to debride his left knee joint and remove loose bodies. He sustained the injury during the team’s Quarterback School II last week.

The 23-year old Mitchell was a four-year letterman at the University of Massachusetts (1998-01), who started each of his final three seasons. He opened at left tackle his sophomore and junior seasons, and played both left and right tackle as a senior.

A native of Utica, N.Y., Mitchell attended Proctor High School. He was born on May 15, 1979.

Dolphins Chief Team Physician Dr. George Caldwell performed the surgery at Imperial Point Hospital in Fort Lauderdale.

Bundren will be evaluated on a week-to-week basis.

This is on the ESPN's section on the Dolphins.

" The team also signed OT Corey Mitchell, an undrafted rookie free agent out of Massachusetts. "

I am sure he is TC fodder, but still would like to know if he has any potential, maybe Practice Squad??

Corey Mitchell is listed at 6'4" 310 pounds. He measured 6'3 1/2" 325 pounds at the scouting combine in late February. Mitchell only ran a 5.5 second 40 yard dash at the combine so his speed or quickness may be in question. He is known as a tough guy who has good strength. He played both right and left tackle for the University of Massachusetts so he has some versatility. He is definitely considered a long shot to make the team and his best bet would be to make the practice squad if he can show anything at all in training camp.
