Still hoping to force a trade before the start of training camp, disgruntled wide receiver Ashley Lelie skipped the Denver Broncos' mandatory minicamp session on Thursday and is expected to boycott the entire three-day event.

Profile 2005 SEASON STATISTICS Rec Yds TD Avg Long YAC 42 770 1 18.3 56 203 Denver is the last team in the NFL to convene a mandatory minicamp before training camp starts.
The absence of Lelie, who is unhappy over his role with the Broncos, the offseason acquisition of wide receiver Javon Walker, and apparently his contract, was expected. The four-year veteran, the subject of trade rumors through much of the offseason, had previously boycotted all 14 of the Broncos' voluntary organized team activities (OTAs) workouts and had publicly reiterated his desire to move on.
Lelie, 26, was a first-round choice in the 2002 draft, the 19th player chosen overall that year, and the former University of Hawaii standout was a full-time starter the past two seasons.
For his career, Lelie has appeared in 64 games and started 40 contests, and has recorded 168 receptions for 3,007 yards and 12 touchdowns. He led the league in average yards per reception each of the last two years, at 20.1 yards in 2004 and 18.3 yards in 2005, among players with more than 40 catches.
But after enjoying a career season in 2004, with 54 catches for 1,084 yards and seven touchdowns, Lelie's numbers fell off last year, when he posted 42 receptions for 770 yards and only one touchdown.
A longstrider and deep threat, Lelie has 53 catches for 20 yards or more and 18 receptions of 40-plus yards in his career, but is prone to lapses in concentration and to bouts of inconsistency. Although the Broncos have attempted to deal him during the offseason, they have found no one willing to meet their asking price.
The Broncos already have 11-year veteran Rod Smith on hand and Walker, who is rehabilitating from a torn anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee, is expected to be completely recovered for the beginning of camp, and projected as the other starter. That leaves Lelie as the No. 3 wideout at best and the Broncos have a number of younger players they feel can fill that role.
Lelie is entering the final year of his original rookie contract and is due a base salary of $600,000. Because he is under contract, he can be fined for missing the mandatory minicamp. If Lelie follows through on his threat to sit out training camp, which begins July 28, he will also be subject to daily fines for those absences. There is a possibility the Broncos could attempt to recover a prorated share of the $3.3 million signing bonus that Lelie received in 2002.

no problems, as long as its cap friendly. depth is welcome. he has talent, but seems to be abit fragile. but the addition of him wopuld surely jeoperdize wes' (walker) roster spot. no?

Not such a good idea...Remember he wants to and thinks that he will be a No. 1 receiver in this league. He won't be until he learns to catch the ball. I have heard many here say (and it may be true) that Chris Chambers drops alot of passes, but this guy is the king of dropped passes....passes that should be routine completions. Too much mouth, not enough talent.

i agree. but he has made big time clutch plays in the past. so the potential is certainly there. thats all im saying bro.

I don't think we should want him. The more physical the corners play him the more flustered he gets thoughout games.

Ya know, I was a fan of his in college. But he is showing that he has no idea of how football is played here. Think about it. he is the #2 guy in denver behind Smith, who is getting old. They trade and bring in Walker, who might not even play too much this season. SO if you think about it, he could be #2 all year, and then Smith, who will probably retire after theis season (IMO), Then it would be him and Walker. Ever WRs know they need another good WR opposite of him to take away the pressure.
So if he was smart he would sit tight and live it up, and maybe learn to catch a few more balls that hit him in that hard place,...... I mean his hands. Plus he is losing a lot of money by not showing up to camps and stuff. He is just showing how dumb he is. He is being a baby, and claiming he is a number one WR, when he has in no way proved it.

As far as us looking at him. Yeah right. They are asking for a first round draft pick last time I heard, and he is far from any pick on day 1 IMO.

Say No To Ashley!!

Prob THe Riaders are gonna sign Him!!

HE should help the recieveing corps of KC THey would use him well

That would be funny to see him play for KC against denver a few times a year. KC hasen't had a WR in years..... not that AL would be the number one there. Gonzo will always be their number 1 WR there

+1 Very good post

What exactly has Lelie proven to anyone besides the fact that he does hula dances around the football? I have not seen anything out of this man except he is a whining complainer that wants more money.

Hell No to Lelie!!! You think you get upset with CC and McMike dropping passes,,,,Lelie is even worse as far as dropping gimme passes. I see this guy every week playing for the Broncos...he just is overrated and a head case.

No. We're stacked at receiver anyway. He'll never be the #1 on this team.

:yeahthat: we have hagan, aromashadu, welker, cambell, chambers, booker and i could be missing someone but we dont need another wr

Ashley Lelie never was able to do anything amazing againts the Raider and Chief DBs, and he was shut down by the charger's 31st ranked pass D. If he is worth a draft pick it would be a fourth or fifth round choice.
