Years ago I saw an interview where Phil Jackson was asked how he came up with the concepts and the winning system he used to build the 1990's Bulls. His answer was so simple, that, well, I was astounded. This concept has been rattling around in my head for years, and I cannot for the life of me figure out WHY no one in this organization could understand the logic and genius behind this simple statement.

The answer: I built the Bulls to beat the Nicks. Thats it, all he did was look at the top team in his Conference, and design a team/system to beat them. Of course having M. Jordan helped, a lot, but still the concept was so simple it was genius.

The Emperor, also has said time and time again, first you have to get to the playoffs, so to do this, you have to win your division, to do this you have to win all of your home games, and the games in your division. Getting 1 or 2 bye weeks is also an important part of winning in the playoffs, as is home field advantage.

So if you are the FO, including coaches, what should be your priority, yup building a team that can consistently beat the Evil Empire. This would include the following.

1. Keep Brady off of the field, which would mean a power running attack to eat yuuuuuge chunks of clock time.
2. Keep Brady in his back, big time pass rush and blanket coverage
3. Negating the Gronk effect
4. Negating the famous SF/NE two/three receiver pick play.

I know there is a bunch of other stuff that could be added, I'm not a yuuuuuge x-o guy so I am sure there are others here who could fill this list out. But the point is, I have never heard a Phins coach say, the first thing we have to figure out is how to consistently win our division.

The Still Wondering How These Guys Keep Their Jobs VIPER

Phil Jackson didn't even come up with the triangle offense it was Sam Barry out of USC and Tex Winter. On top of that the guy had 2 dynasties almost anyone could have won a ton with.

Literally every coach has been trying to take down Tom Brady for 2 decades now. There are 2 things the Patriots hate.

1) Tom Brady getting hit
2) Guarding multiple running back sets in the middle of the field

It is so tough to hit Tom though as they have one of the greatest offensive line coaches in the history of the game and they also get rid of the ball so damm fast.

The reason the Patriots win so much is really quite simple. It's because they never beat themselves. You never see them have the mental breakdowns other teams do and that is a huge part of winning in this league.

Phil Jackson got Jordan........that's why he won. Then he went to LA and had Shaq and Bryant. Did he win anything in NY?

I would also add no one gets away with more blatant crap than the Patriots.
Too many players on defense "respect" Tom Brady and usually seem very reluctant to smack him.

I've always been an advocate for a few good smacks a questionable few seconds after the ball is gone.
As a defense, you should absolutely and ALWAYS hit Qbs like Tom Brady, if your goal is to win the game! Especially early, setting the tone for the rest of the day.
Tom Brady is how old? 41 Years Old! He should DREAD having to suit up. He should DREAD taking more hits today. He should DREAD coming to work. He should love the thought of sitting on a couch reading a book to his kids.
NFL defenses are SOFT on the qb.

I don't care if your the face of the NFL and a future hall of famer. Today the goal is to hit you everytime you touch the ball. So much, in fact, you'd think you're playing running back.

That's why he can play like this at 41. If you fart in a QBs direction it's a penalty.

It's pretty simple to me and I learned it in pee wee football. "The game is won/lost in the trenches" and our o-line has sucked for 20 years.

They have tried that approach ..get pressure up the middle to rattle Brady...we did that with Suh and it never worked out.

That and it’s you vs the Pats and the 12 penalties they are going to throw at you because... they’re the Pats. Don’t touch them too much. That’s a flag.

What game was it this year that they had zero penalties? ZERO.

Any linemen there is/ever was will tell you there is holding on practically every single play. They don’t get caught once?

It’s so blatantly protecting the shield that the NFL should be sued for it.

Against the chiefs they had 0 flags. I find it hard to believe that a O-line player didn’t get beat a single time and blatantly held to not give up the sack and still not get called for it.
