According to Mike and Mike in the morning those two along with Joey Galloway and Keyshaun Johnson are the only 4 players in the last 15 years to be traded for 2 1st round draft picks....I thought that was extremely interesting since none of these trades really worked out that well.

My question is which (if any) of these players were most worthy of being traded for 2 1st rounders??

Can't really say that Ricky didn't work out for us, he had two incredible seasons, and yeah he retired to smoke some green, but now hes still on the team and producing pretty well.

Whether Ricky worked out or not is up to opinion. But the fact that only 4 players have been traded for 2 1st round picks is rather interesting.

Wasn't Roy Williams traded for two first rounders too? I forget. And yeah you're right, it is pretty interesting.

We gave the Saints 2 1st round pick which worked out perfectly because DW and RS would have wasted those 1st rounders on BUSTS. It worked out big time for the Fins

I don't see how anyone could say that it was a good trade for us.

Here is what Ricky has done for us:

2002: Great season (missed playoffs)
2003: Good season (missed playoffs)
2004: Retired, Forced to draft a RB with the #2 pick to replace him, (missed playoffs)
2005: Missed four games, was a solid split carry back for us (missed playoffs)
2006: Suspended for entire season, (missed playoffs)
2007: Appeared in one game, (missed playoffs)
2008: Valuable split carry back, (made playoffs)

So in the 7 seasons that we've had him, we made the playoffs once. He has started 6 games in the past 5 seasons.

To say that it was a good trade because our front office would have messed it up is a cop out. Even they made some good draft picks and, who knows, maybe their drafts would have been better if we hadn't been missing TWO first round picks. Plus since he retired after two years we had to use a TOP FIVE draft pick to find his replacement.

I didnt watn to turn this thread into a debate over Ricky being worth the 2 1st rounders we gave up for him. But plain and simple if we would have known about Ricky's marijuana we would have never made that trade.

But I dont think anyone can argue the fact that Joey Galloway (from the Seahawks to the Cowboys), and Keyshaun Johnson (from the Jets to the Buccs), both ended badly for both teams.

Had Wrongstsat kept his word and made an attempt to fix the OL ,Rickey would have never gone up in smoke. Then it might have been a good trade.

The OL when Ricky ran for 1,800 was actually pretty good. I didn't/don't like Wannstedt either but you can't blame him for Ricky going looney tunes. Ricky also only really had one good season for us. When he ran for 1,800 yards he was great but the year after you could def. tell something was wrong and he wasn't the same RB. He got over 1,000 yards sure but his average was under 4 and he was running soft, I remember all too well going crazy at how Ricky would turn his back and fall backwards when going into a pile or about to have contact. To this day I still don't know what the **** he was doing.

Tangent again.

Sorry to tell you. But there where signs long before we traded for Ricky. First he was quoted as saying before the draft that his football goals didnt go beyond college football. Which made Indy take Edge over Ricky. Than a couple years later the Saints selected Duece McAlister in the first round. Now why would they do that when they already had Ricky? There where alot of sources that said he failed his first drug test prior to being traded. Our front office failed to do their research.

Back on Tangent:

Personally, I like Cutler and think of the other 3 players traded for 2 first rounders (including Ricky). When you throw in Orton and the 3rd rounder its a bit more debateable. But simpily looking at the two 1st rounders. Cutler was probably most worth the risk. Especially since he plays the most important position in football and he has shown he has the skills to be successful in the NFL. He is a 25 year old probowl QB, and the oppurtunity to aquire a player like that is extremely rare. Ron Turner is a proven cordinator in this league and I think Cutler along with the defense, will lead the Bears to a division title.

Agreed,

Plus with the way we had drafted under that administration i think you would have to say it was a smart move for us.

We got an all-pro RB for two first rounders, was the price steep? No doubt, but considering we dont even have any drafted players on our current roster from that era it obviously turned out well for us.

It didn't turn out well for us. We gave up two first round draft picks for a guy who has started 38 games in SEVEN seasons under our control. That is awful. Plus, we had to use the #2 overall pick to replace Ricky after he retired. So we basically used 3 first round picks in a three years to fix our runningback situation.

But he's still here after 7 seasons.....unlike our draft picks from that era who aren't.

lol@anyone saying in any way shape or form the Ricky trade was worth it...

that trade is one of the worst in dolphins history... TWO 1st round picks, cmon horrible trade... id keep the Feeley trade, Lamar Gordon trade, all those bad trades to turn back the clock to not give up 2 1sts for Ricky...

granted it didn't have to be 2 first rounders, it was a first rounder than a conditional first rounder the following year, Ricky just happened to have a sick first year with us before collapsing...
