I notice a strong similarity in the kind of players that are drafted by the Dolphins, Cowboys, and New England. There is probably also a similarity between the Browns now too. This makes sense since they are all from the same coaching lineage.
For example with Toledo and Allen the Cowboys both wanted them. New England is different since they are usually picking 15 picks later. We are also usually competeing for the same guys in free agency. It seemed that every player we were after the Browns were making strong pushes for this year. Along with other guys like Sedrick Hodge (Dallas), Tebucky Jones (New England), Willie McGinest (Browns), etc.
So what do they look for in these players, and it is not just about size at linebacker and DL to play a 3-4. Is there a stronger value on certain aspects like Atheleticism and size in the secondary and OL, or college educations, less concerns for wunderlich scores and combine numbers. It always seems like we are picking up odds and ends in free agency and never just big names. But why were certain guys like Goodman and Hill were targeted right out of the box, it seemed like we brought them in right away like we knew we wanted them.
I remember reading somewhere about Saban having a book that specified what to look for in each position and I imagine that none of us will ever see it but maybe some of the resident draft experts might know some of the key points.
