Is there a major move still in store for the dolphins this offseason? I hope so, because even though Parcells played his cards right on the Pace issue and has made a few key signings (I'm happiest about Smiley and Wilford), there are still a few gaping holes that must be addressed. With most of the big name free agents gone already, it seems that the dolphins are running out of options quicker than you can say one and fifteen.

Flozell didn't come through for us, and there seems to be little interest in the first pick. We will probably be forced to use it on one of the two longs, and then use the second rounder on a backer or qb. We can only speculate at this point, but there are so many areas that the dolphins could use at least some help at and haven't adequately addressed: most notably QB, TE, OL, DE, LB, CB. It will probably be a tradeoff, we won't get to address all of these areas in the draft or free agency. Rookies and average free agents, however, are not a quick fix. I agree that the jets are crazy to sign pace and Faneca to those huge contracts, but they are making major moves and taking major gambles, something that tuna hasn't done so far. It is good to be conservative but at some point we are going to have to take a risk.

any ideas as to what this risk will be?

When your a 1-15 team...you don't take risk's. You build with the right players and you build smartly...slowly.

Take it easy , what if pace goes on to have 15 sacks ? we never know so wait see who the 83 players and how many are in the 53.just because a FA signed does not mean they make the team as a ufa rookie might beat him.

I definitely agree with the slow, smart rebuilding process, but especially with JT available to trade and as many high draft picks as we have, there very well could be a possibility of making another major move this offseason. We have to take some risks if we want to see rewards. Maybe we'll see more of that next offseason.

No risks are necassary. Rebuilding this team is a project, and there should be no delusions that this is going to happen in time for us to be Super Bowl contenders this coming season. We still have the draft and a second round of free agency after the June 1st cuts to pick up several players that could help us. We also have next off season to do it all again. By that time, we will be a tough, hard nosed football tieam with a nice mix of youth, veterans, and playmakers that will make this team a legitimate playoff team.

We need to be patient. 7 or 8 wins this season is a good possibility. I'll accept that after a 1-15 season. That's a huge step in the right direction. With two offseasons under the new regime's belts, we will be a very respected, tough football team with great depth, a strong defense, great special teams, and a stronger, improving offense.

Good call, its just frustrating to hear about all these possibilities (CJ, Flozell, Pace) and not have them come through in the end. We'll see whats up in June I guess.

they need to get the QB in place who ever it is, we then need to take more lumps unfortunately unless beck becomes the guy then the phins could be competitive

I wonder if teams like the lions of the 90s were always optimistic about next season like we always seem to be. I am optimistic myself, but it seems like I am every year, and we have slowly gotten worst and worst despite how great i may think we will be in the offseason. 8 wins seems like a lot for a team that just went 1-15, dont get me wrong I'm not discounting the possibility by any means, but arent we looking ahead a little much yet? I mean, we still havent seen the draft, all of free agency, or training camp. I deffinitely think that a guy like parcells is the type to turn this thing around though, and so far I've loved his approach. With the new coaching I think we are going to get a lot more out of these players than Cam ever did, and hopefully we will see early dividends. Wishful thinking... just like every year around this time.

I am sure Parcells and company are aware of everything that is going on and are taking things one step at a time. We still have a lot of Cap space to work with, and there are a lot of things I am sure we are not even aware of going on in the background. If somebody big is a cap casuality in June we will be one of the big players still able to make an offer. We don't know, there may even be a trade being considered now or for the draft. Just because we don't hear anything or the media doesn't mention anything doesn't mean there is nothing happening.

if we get one thing out of this draft it should be a solid o line. that makes everyone better, beck is our guy, 1-15 teams never have wr as a need in the draft. build the lines, strengthen the secondary and add a mlb. that is the way to win

Heres the question of the century... How many different names can we come up with for threads that relate to BP trickery, or having something up his sleeve?

I know what the Tuna has up his sleeve...

Anyone expecting a quick fix is insane. Spielman, Saban, and Mueller all tried that approach and just dug us a bigger hole. I like the current Parcells approach. Sign a handful of younger players cheaply without comproming the cap and maybe one or two of them blossoms above expectations ( ala a Mike Vrabel or Wes Welker). Draft solidly and lay the foundation. In future when we have the main pieces in place we can think abound spending big to get those last couple of supplemental pieces.

For draft, if Dolphins cannot trade down I hope the Dolphins sign pick one of the Long's (I prefer Jake considering we have needed a LT since Webb left). Both look like low-risk but potential high-reward type players with great character. I skip Ryan because there are always a couple of QB's like him every year. Give Beck a chance, maybe draft a Flacco or Henne in round 2 or even an Erik Ainge or other big strong QB in later rounds. If Beck flops (and even if he doesn't), chances are we won;t be very good next year anyway. We will still be in position to draft one of the better QB's the following season if need be.
