Last year a bunch of people on here were so excited that we signed Marcus Vick as a free agent, proclaiming how he was going to be a great KR/PR and a 4th/5th WR that we could use in a Randel El/Hines Ward style. This year he gets cut and no one really has a lot to say. I get the feeling those are the same people that are saying Ginn was well worth the 9th pick, that he'll transform the Dolphins return game the way Devin Hester did the Bears, See a pattern here of copying gimic type solutions from teams that had a successful season the year before ?

Hats off first of all to Marcus Vick for cleaning his act up. At this time last year we did not have Ginn and Az-Kahim. There is just too many better WR's on this team than Vick. Now that Ginn is here, he will be a spark to our bland Special Teams. Is he worth the 9th pick? Who knows, we'll find out this year.

What is the point of this thread? Anybody who held hope that Vick could become a good player for us is stupid and should be ridiculed? Is that what this is about?

are you comparing vick to ginn?? i hope not

No, I give Ginn more credit then that even if I don't think he was a great pick. I was comparing the thought process of some fans that whatever "gimmick" worked for a team the year before we need. When Piitsburgh won the Super Bowl a bunch of people wanted Vick because he could be used the same way Randel El was, now this past year Hester amazed people and helped the Bears to the Super Bowl so they justify the Ginn pick with that. Personally I liked the Colts method of a solid all around offense and a franchise QB, but that is old school I guess.

What's the purpose of the antagonistic tone in your post? Most of the people who were excited about Vick were just being hopeful that we brought someone in who would make a difference. Isn't that what we all are hoping for with every single drafted rookie, walk on and FA that comes into camp? As for whether or not Ginn was "worth" the #9 pick; at this point it doesn't really matter. At this point all that should matter is what he can do for the Dolphins and how much he can contribute to our success.

first off i am a vick supporter... second off.... what is your point? that we havent posted anything about vick since he was cut? lol what do you want me to say? i think hes a good football player and someone who knows about the game might know that it takes more than 1 year to make a quarterback into a wide reciever and kick returner..... al wilson got cut... i assume you think that he is garbage? lol think before you post.

Who cares? What do you want, a bunch of threads with people whining because he was cut? You can't hate on people for being optimistic about players.
Vick also does not have the speed of Randle El and definately not Ginn which is the main emphasis for kick returners these days.

Wilson got hurt because he is hurt and getting long in the tooth, big difference. If you think he is a good player and has a future why aren't you upset about the Dolphins cutting him ?

My point was a bunch of people around here jumped on his bandwagon last year and now no one wants to stand up for him. Personally I'm impressed he seems to have turned his life around and stayed out of trouble for a year, I hope he continues on that road. However I never thought he had the skills to play at the NFL level so no loss.

I still like him, but I wasn't against cutting him. It's all about need... Vick's role would have been 4th WR/PR/KR... with Ginn, we can use Vick's roster spot for something else.

Vick was undrafted. He was a QB in college. He was a project at WR. Whoever said he was going to be great at WR was toasted. I thought he had the ability to contribute on special teams and maybe be O.K. as a wide receiver after a couple of years at the position. SO what, if people said we could use him as a decoy or what not, It was a good idea the Dolphins never tried.

As for Ginn being good at special teams, Hes proved it in college and maybe he can do it in the NFL , that is to be seen. The bottom line is we got him to play WR and stretch defenses not just to be a special teamer. He's a First round pick and we expect him to excel at the position he plays. Some WR's take longer to develop than others. Hester is nothing but a kick returner. He can play "Dime" corner and thats about it. Ginn was a bit of a reach at nine but other than Ginn who would you have selected? Let me guess, Brady Quinn. If not either of those 2 then who was worth the #9 pick?

I agree with you completely on the Vick deal.
First he was going to beat out all our QB's.
Then when he got demoted to WR because he got beat out by a QB we eventually dumped, he'd immediatley contribute at WR and become the new slash. Then when he was producing little to show he deserves to see the field at WR we got people on here saying he should replace Welker in the return role.

He wasn't ever going to be squat.
I think it was Mueller that even mentioned he didn't have the speed needed for us to keep him in a ST/WR depth role. Yet so many just assumed he has lightning speed because of his last name, solely because of his last name IMO.

As for the Ginn comparison though, I think you're way off on that.
Ginn was a top college WR and a top recruit.
Neither things Vick were.

Because we don't cry on message boards. And the original post sounds a lot like crying.

I was a Vick supporter. I wanted him to succeed. I didn't start a website called www.vickwillsucceed.com nor am I going to start a website called www.IamSadVickGotCut.com

He got cut, we move on.

I'm sick of people trying to categorize "the optimists", like mosts optimists on this board are blind optimists. I liked the Ginn pick, that doesn't mean that I was excited by the Marcus Vick signing. To me, Vick was one of those "meh" signings. I liked the Vernon Carey pick, I was one of the few that stuck by that pick when the majority seemed to be calling him a bust. I still like the Jason Allen pick last year, as I saw many of his games and saw what he did at the combine. Jason Allen would project well at CB if he were 5'9 with his tremendous athletic ability; being 6'2 at around 215 with his kind of athletic ability is very rare.

There are a number of picks that I've disagreed with over the years (like the Matt Roth pick), I'm not going to start several threads about it just because I don't like it. If I started a dozen threads on how Matt Roth is bust and he turns around next year only to have 15 sacks.......how would that make me look? Probably a lot like the fans that were proclaiming Vernon Carey a bust after his rookie season.
