What Happened to Shaw?

Saban seemed real high on McGill in his PC though- seems like we have scouted/wanted him for quite a while.
That's what I heard. I was juts thing in regards if Traylor Zgonina was to go down, we would have Shaw on the PS for back up, since Vickerson is out.

I don't think Shaw is eligible for PS. Isn't it only for 1st and 2nd year players? This is Shaw's 5th year.

Shaw can't go to the practice squad because he's been on the roster for too many games. After so many games (I think it's 8) you cannot be eligible for the practice squad.

We also have McGill, Manny Wright, and dont forget KC and VH can play DT.

Although I would love to have Shaw on the PS too.

I hear you. I guess I am thinking of the young blood down the road, to get some fresh legs in there, along with some speed to push into the pocket.

Yah- IMO the injury to Vickerson had a bigger impact on us then many choose to believe. He was having a great camp.

Thanks to you and Batman13. I couldn't remember if he was eligible or not. Hopefully he makes it back to the team in a good way.

Yup he may make for a starter someday. This team still needs to do what it can to get a solid DT in FA next offseason that can be more then a 1 year temp. Do that and add a DT in the 3rd/4th and then with the 2 young guys we should have enough youth that out of those 3 draft picks we'd have our 2 starters and at least one quality rotation guy. DL still needs some work but heck a lot of positions on the team do.

Also I think there isn't a year limit to it. Just a # of games limit as we had Robert Baker on our squad for years.

Shaw will be around, nobody claimed him. If we need him, he'll probably be ready to go. With these types of situations they probably even have a gentleman's agreement that if nobody wants to make him a serious offer, at some point due to injuries he'll be picked up onto the active roster for a game check or two.

I get the feeling the coaches feel pretty lucky to get McGill though. They had him rated as the best defensive lineman in all of NFL Europe.

I wouldn't be surprised to see Shaw again. DT is a position that has a lot of injuries, and he'll be the first guy we'll call if somone goes down. He already knows the Defense.

I think McGill is 26. I think that would classify him as a younger defensive tackle: someone, if he pans out, could start on our line for years to come.
