Let's say the Dolphins miss the playoffs next season (knock on wood!) and we fire the coaching staff. What happens to Hickey? Philbin is not his coach/mistake. I know it depends some what on his drafts and free agents. Does he stay on and get a chance to hire his own coach or are we starting from scratch with BOTH GM and HC positions?

I hope it doesn't happen but something to consider.

He gets fired too.

that would be ironic as already he's distinguished himself as the best FO exec in at least 10 years. Better, we keep Hickey, let him hire the coach and Ross pays the jest reject some **** off money and we hire an actually qualified football czar.

He will be able to get a new GM job much quicker I think.

He won't have to become an agent or a billionaire's lackey.

The REALLY funny thing is...

I remember Hickey talking extensively about those very same things when he was hired. he kept going on and on about metrics and new systems to be cutting edge.

Basically it looks like Hickey probably didn't jump quick enough when Ross asked him to do something, he was probably busy doing real NFL work.

Now Ross has a 'high jumper', in frog GREEN.

Hickey, Philbin or the team doing a good or bad job is irrelevant, Tannenbaum will be the new GM, it's only a matter of time.

I always feared that King Carl Petersen would eventually run the Dolphins due to his ties to Ross.

This is worse.

Here is what happens....WHEN we miss the playoffs again...Tannenbaum cans everyone but himself. Then he gets a whole new staff. Two years later, they fire the OC or DC as a scapegoat...the year after that the other OC or DC that didn't get fired the year before...the next year Ross finally gets it and fires Tannenbaum and everyone and we FINALLY clean house.

That is "best case" with Ross in charge...worst case...well we just have this cycle going until he dies...

I really hope you are wrong. I don't much mind the move as is, but I don't want him as GM.

The problem is we're stuck with Tannenbaum so long as Ross owns the team. It'll be a classic case of the blind leading the blind. Factually, Tannenbaum, an underqualified bean counter, did such an unimpressive job that when he got fired, because he couldn't even find a lateral GM position, he had to resort to becoming a sports agent. And here Ross has promoted him above a level where he couldn't get arrested. It's ****ing ponderous.

Its hard to say to be honest.
Tannenbaum definitely changes the calculus, but I do not necessarily agree that he cleans house.

If we have a sub par season then I suspect that Philbin is canned and Hickey is reassigned to more of a pure scouting role.
They will certainly ask him to stay and if he likes here I think it will. By all accounts everyone is getting a long. Now that certainly could change.
Tannenbaum will assume a more traditional GM role.

Sounds to me like Ross and Tannebaum also got caught with Al Sharpton's Viagra prescription bottles in their house.

Now they're circling the viagrons.

Can someone explain what is so horrendous about Tannebaum being in the position he's in now? Serious question.
