i understand where they're coming form by giving Marshall a starting spot, h'es clearly earning it and doing well, but why bench our best DB and start Smith over him? i understand the whole 'nickel' thing, but why not start vontae and marshall and put vontae in nickel and let smith take the outside when they come out with 3 wideouts? out of these 3 seasons weve seen the 2 play we clearly know who's better. it just doesnt make sense

Current coaching staff has nothing to do with the last 3 years and I'm sure they don't want to have anything in common with those 3 losings season.

Vontae has shown that he is better than Sean Smith. However the coaching staff is interested in the best combination.

Maybe Marshall/Smith>Marshall/Davis

And in 2 of the last 3 years we have been in the bottom 3rd of the league in passing yards allowed.
If isn't working you have to chnage it up.

i get where your coming from, but still. the skill level between davis and smith is huge. i just dont get it

Smith has responded to Coyles coaching very well by all the reports I've read. He's having a very good off season and training camp. Vontae seems to be the one that's inconsistant and while he has the ability to be an outstanding corner and has shown it in spots during his three seasons he hasn't been consistant enough. Vontae has the ability to be a great all around corner but he doesn't show it nearly enough as he should. Physically I think he's our best corner, mentally...that's another story.

when i watched our games i always saw vontae playing like a football player and smith acting like a pretty boy and not making plays, idk. every time i saw smith i saw him trying to look good or watching himself on the screen

I do think Davis is better than Smith, but I see why they are starting Smith. Smith is more suited to play the outside corner while Vontae has the ability to play the nickel as well. I was surprised when I first heard this, but I still think that this can work.

IMO... Both Smith and Davis have been immature, unprofessional and selfish.... They have gotten away with it because they were the best we had and the previous staff did next to nothing to hold them accountable... or caved when it was time to play games.... which just goes to show the depth at those positions were weak and pathetic...

We are not talking about athletic talent... they have the talent... they have just been wasting it... and with a new staff and scheme... it's be a pro or there's the door!

I hope they both can become pro's.... but both are going to do something they are not used to... and that's come to work every day.... we shall see.
