When would we see henne, our Oline keeps Pennington upright most of the game... so he has way less of a chnace to get injured...
but hes only 32... Qb's are playing into their late 30's pretty well (farve, warner, garcia, others...)

his contract is up in two years... so if hes still solid next season... do we resign him? i'd like him to retire a dolphin...
but if he plays well next season, in 2010 i dont think he'll want to back up henne whenhe'd be a capable starter for some other team...
i'd be really awesome to have Henne and a Pennington insurance policy.. he'd only be 34-35... still have 2-3 more years after that in him...

so what do we do?

As long as he is productive, I'd want him to remain the starter. Also, so long as Henne is still with the Dolphins, I don't think you could go wrong

Its a great question and i have no idea what the answer is, i just hope for a seamless transition and that chad p becomes chad hennes QB coach.

i think he plays out this contract and hopefully we'll be able to retain him as a back-up after that. that's if Henne can beat him out.

it's important to have a good back-up QB. just look at New England

The coaching staff will eventually make a determination as to when Henne is ready. Whether it be next year, or two years from now. As much as I love what Penny is doing for this team, there will eventually be a time when the team will transition over to Chad Henne. I am and will always forever be grateful for what Chad Pennington has meant in the rebuilding process of the Miami Dolphins, but eventually this coaching staff will be unable to let Henne sit on the sidelines when they know he is physically and mentally ready to go.

You play Pennington until

A) he's injured
or
B) Henne beats him out for the job

Which i think will happen despite how Pennington plays. Obviously if we make the playoffs this year then it's probably going to be difficult for Henne to overtake Pennington next training camp, however if we finish even with a winning record on the outside of the playoffs i believe there will be open competition for the starting role and Henne would then have a very good shot of winning.

I love the potential Henne has but I`m just going to enjoy what Penningtons doing right now. It`s nice to feel confident about our QB position. I`ll worry about a QB competition later on down the line.

The longer we keep Pennington in as starter the better we are (provided he continues to play good obv). Plus the longer we keep Pennington in the longer Henne has to progress as a future QB and learn from Pennington

you have great evidence now that QB'S that are not rushed into the lineup seem to make a good transition, look at new england, greenbay, even quinn sat a year and seems more comfortable, henne has alot of talent and we dont have to rush him, when he beats pennington out the job is his

If Penny plays at this level it will be very hard for Henne to beat him out, if he does then we do have the next Marino, granted if Penny plays at this level. However, right now, I will take Penny over 2/3 of the QBs in the league right now and if Penny stays healthy and developes that "me to you factor" with the receivers, I hate to say it but Henne sit your butt there in that corner and wait your turn.
