One problem I have with QBs is that many (Dan Marino was funny doing it) do not really sell the play action fake.

If the defense does not believe at all that you handed the ball off then the play can go bad quickly. The best PA QG of our time? Of course, Tom Brady. His stats of PA passes is unreal. A lot of them are/were from a formation where he would turn his back and hand off and the fake is great.

But for it to really work you need the threat of a running game. And the real threat of trying to run for it on 3rd down. I other words, a power back. Something we have been missing for years except for a few games from
Knowshon Moreno
.

Now we have a better OL and a bigger stronger running back. Ryan Tannehill has been averaging about 50 sacks a years lately. I'd like to see Jay Ajayi and Lamar Miller run at least 30 times a game.

Ryan was sacked 46 times last season (30th in the NFL) and 58 times in 2113 (32st or last in the NFL), It is amazing he is not hurt. Running the ball more will not only keep Ryan safer but teams that run a lot keep their defense off the field a extra 10-12 plays a game.

We have had excuses. "It is a passing league now" which goes with "we simply do not have a good enough running back".

All I am saying is, give running the ball a chance..........................:420:

Tannehill is already one of the better QB's in the league at play-action fakes.

He does a lot of the little things the right way, IMO, and hopefully this is the season it starts to REALLY pay off.

Play action?! Do we even have that in our play book? We are spread team bro.

This is an overrated skill imo. The initial action movement is what holds the defense, sure it helps some.. The action of the play (the back, o line, qb ) is all a part of it

We run zone read all the time...that's how we run the ball because our O-line can't block worth a crap. There's no traditional play action because Tannehill would be on the ground before he turned around.

Agreed. Tanny sells his play fakes very well and has since he was a rookie.

Would rather see a progression in the area of when to just throw the ball away. Rather than taking a 5 - 10 yd sack....

I do agree that we need to run the ball more. We have a bunch of young, explosive weapons that will look even better if defenses have to respect the run. We were (believe it or not) 2nd in the league last year in rushing YPC. Run it more, Bill. Ajayi is the steal of the draft.

Ryan is ranked one of the best in the NFL at play action.

The problem is we don't have a run game teams are scared of. Don't let millers stats fool you. Most of those yards were produced by the system and by the passing game.

A LOT of this teams problems will be cleaned up by a running game that can be relied on.

I think he's pretty decent at it, seems everyone else does too

Hell he usually fools me lol

Insomnia, your sig has started to give me nightmares.

This

And to say Marino and P/A in the same sentence is laughable. He would just wave the ball in the direction of a running back, then look downfield and say "where the hell is Clayton ??"
