Long time lurker, sporadic poster.

The general consensus on this board (myself included) is that the wildcat was born out of an inability to run in a conventional offense. However, I heard something this weekend that made me question that. Chris Carter was talking about the Pat White pick and he mentioned how BP used to leave "pieces of paper" all over the set with plays that could be run out of the wildcat. He said something about wishing he could implement it somewhere. This was before he came to Miami.

So, the question is, how much of a factor could that have been in his personnel decisions? Tony Sparano is obviously ok with running the formation. The selection of a player like Pat White seems to indicate a certain level of commitment to it as well.

My feelings on the wildcat are somewhat tumultuous. When they line up in the formation part of me wants to cry out “We don’t need this crap!” and another part of me is just waiting in anticipation because I know that at any time this formation can generate a huge play. I can’t really explain why, but I feel better if we’re doing it because we want to as opposed to doing it because we have no other choice.

With the right players on the field you could run the wildcat or a convention shotgun 3 or wr set. I think that is why Pat White is interesting, you watch the Cheatriots spend the whole game in the shotgun. So who is to say we won't be doing it to with a whole lot of different plays and results?

If Grove is a nasty as everyone on here claims imagine the holes we will get at the point of the attack that weren't there last year. If White sees this he hands it to Ronnie or keeps it himself. If not he pulls it out steps back and hits a receiver. To stop the run you need a lot of players in the box, which should leave receivers in single coverage's and mismatches. It has potential and is exciting to say the least!

I saw Chris Carter saying that too, makes you wonder if BP has a little mad scientist in him!

I don't think the wild cat was a plan that we wanted to use otherwise we would have used it in the first 2 games of the season
against The Jets who beat us 20-14 and Arizona who beat us 31-10 that was the week that things changed and we showed New England the wild cat and won 38-13...my only question is did teams figure out the wild cat because in our second metting with New England we were spanked pretty bad and our playoff game was one sided

We were trading TD's with the Pats until the secondary went on vacation. The playoff game was one sided cause Baltimore got pressure and we got none. Every time we went into the WildPat formation the Ravens flooded the box, because they new Ronnie wasn't going to throw it. Well not anymore with White taking the snap if they flood the box the mismatches will kill them!

Maybe David Lee coming in as our QBs coach wasn't a coincidence either. This teams going to be fun to watch next season. Just glad we can be apart of it.

they only figured it out by simply blitzing everyone everytimewe went into the formation because there was no "real" passing threat. that could change dramatically with pat white making the decisions in the wildcat.

Unless it was a planned unveiling of the wildcat against what would've probably been the toughest game on the schedule.

David Lee is the piece of the puzzle (along with that interesting Cris Carter take on it) that makes me start to think this was planned. I know Dan Henning is the offensive coordinator, but David Lee might be the brain behind the Wildcat (along with Parcells if Cris Carter is right) considering he came from Arkansas where they ran it to perfection against SEC defenses.

I still dont know what to completely think about it, but the Pat White makes me think there is way more to come. All of the players seem to hint and suggest very little of what they actually can do out of the formation was actually ran in games last year probably because they did not trust Ronnie's decision making ability (Pat White should help that) especially when it came to passing options.

It could be dangerous and I hope Pat White sees playing time in this formation right away.

I dont think so. If it was planned, then they would not have drafted Chad Henne last year.

I think Henne was taken because of the value they had on him. He slid to our second, second round pick last year.

There is no doubt that we racked up some serious big plays with the wildcat option formation last year. Isn't that what its all about game changing plays?

When Ireland talked about Pat White he said that he will allow us to change and revolutionize the way we play offense. I think the writing is on the wall.

The pats came out with a damn good team and almost went undefeated when they went to the spread a couple years ago. The bears almost did the same thing when they took over the league with the 4-6 Defense.

The key to both of these schemes is that the patsies and the bears both had the special players that were required to make it work. I think with Pat White, Ronnie Brown, Ricky Williams, Ted Ginn, and Davone Bess. Who knows, we may be in one of those situations where we have the right players to do something new and special.

I'm expecting some exciting play calling this year.

I, too, heard Cris Carter mentioning how Parcells would doodle.

Here is my twist for the wildcat . Mind you its not original but it hasn't been used in awhile.... maybe Parcells can bring in another former Giants coach (Fassel) to consult?

The plan all along IMO has been for the offense to be a multi-dimensional as possible.

Yep, I can just imagine Tony talking to Ginn saying "when this play goes, you better floor it.."
