We have had David Martin running receiver routes most of the season and he used to play WR in the past, so what if we just made the move official and put him at WR?

I'm really just kind of brainstorming since there isn't a whole lot going on right now. It may also be time to resurrect my "move Jason Allen to WR" and/or "move Ted Ginn to CB" schemes.

I thought the suggestion of moving Roth to a 3-4 ILB was wacky enough, now we get David Martin to wideout with the implication he could solve our #1 WR issue?

It is pure comedy in here sometimes.

I don't mind the "batting around of ideas". Interesting thought, but getting open versus linebackers is one thing. Getting open vs. CB's and safeties is another. I think they originally had ideas of Martin being the 3rd down TE and pass catching one. But Fassano turned out better than they thought. Depending on how much $$ we have invested in him, Martin will either get cut (if $$ savings) or he'll be the 2nd TE threat or maybe even an occasional slot position where they can pass out of or run. But with all the experience our 2nd level WR's got this past year, I see that possibly going out the window in trying to get some of those guys playing time.

If he's not a drain on the salary cap, I think they'll try to keep Martin and in the position he's already been playing. He was fairly productive last season for a number two (and no, I don't mean 'number two' that way) TE. It's evident Fasano is the starter but Martin contributes.

No. Martin has the athletic ability to line up at wide out every once in a while, but no way could he be a full time WR. Hes in the perfect role for us, leave him there.

Martin played great at TE. He is a tough matchup for a LB to stay with or a safety to try and cover cause of his size. BUT he doesn't have the spped to line up at WR. No Way! Fasano and him made a great 1-2 punch. Haynos is a big boy too. No need to pickup another TE if we keep these 3 guys around.

Maybe if he lost some weight and got faster.. he actually looked really good this year

In theory its a nice idea, but i cant say it work for a few reasons. 1) I dont think he is fast enough to get in and out of cuts as fast as a protypical WR needs to, and 2) I think he would be very easy for CB's to cover. Remember, being covered by a linebacker who Martin my be faster than, would make him very successful, but put him at WR, and he has to faster, or just as fast as the CB covering him. I think the CB would win everytime

Martin doesn't have the speed to be a WR. You could line him up outside if needed and he has decent hands but I would just keep him at TE, an draft Rutger's Kenny Britt at WR.
