What is a "Reach"?

Any pick that probably 35%+ of this board calls a reach, particular those folks that are usually VERY good at predicting draft talent. That's not a scientific percentage BTW, more of a general feel.

Still a reach, Mitchell and Thomas Jr are better players.

Dude stop, why do you insist on sounding stupid?

I’m going to read you a list of the players that had a higher pressure/sack/hit/hurry rate than chop.

Myles Garret
Micah Parsons
Trey Hendrickson
Nick Bosa
Alex Highsmith

Here’s also win%
Myles Garret
Micah Parson
Nick Bosa
Trey Hendrickson
Jared Verse

Chop is already in elite company after a year. A pass rushers goal is to cause pressure and affect the play, not get sacks. Chop was right behind a group thats combined for 8 first team all pro’s, 19 pro bowls, 3 second team all pro’s and 2 defensive team players of the years. Keep in mind he did this at 21 year old rookie with no additional help. Chop with Phillips and Chubb rushing will be insane. Add an actual NT like Grant who can take on doubles and Chop will be a 15 sack a year guy.

I don’t think Mitchell or Thomas jr are that much if any better but in any case taking a great player doesn’t make them a reach if someone better is taken later. That’s like saying Josh Allen was a reach because Lamar Jackson was still on the board.

Reach 😆

Drafting any player significantly higher than projected by the aggregate due to individual preferences because the team thinks they see something that others can’t in the player, and then the selection doesn’t have the impact it was intended to have.

See, I think in hindsight it is easy to call these guys reaches when you can look back and see they didnt perform to their draft position.

I'd probably be more inclined to call them bad evaluations.

Cam Smith was a highly rated corner coming out, so I wouldnt call him a reach.

Iggy was a slot corner, probably a reach, and the way WE used him, definitely miscast.

But I mean, going in to the draft everyone has different boards, and unless you feel that the player is overhyped im not sure you can call them reaches.

But while youre on the clock, what do you consider a reach?
I just think that any pick you make that is one or more rounds from expectations is a reach. Iggy was anywhere from second to fifth round in the mainstream media. And we went first. I don't recall a single person saying that was a good pick.

I just think a reach is when every other team laughs at you. They could all be wrong, but they still laugh. A seventh round pick is never a reach. A first round pick expected to go in the third is a reach.

Anyone who has “potential” to me is a reach. Draft the best damn player available! If he’s better than your starting safety trade your starter. Stop looking for needless in the hey anymore the nfl moves to fast you need players who can play now or in a year not when their first contract is up and you don’t want to pay them.

Jared Verse would have been sweet but he was already picked
Verse is closer in age to Phillips than he is to Chop. Let’s see what Chop looks like in a couple of years time when he gets even stronger and more explosive.

Chop’s pressure rate was insane when you factor in he is only 21 and wasn’t even given actual pass rush chances until about week 6 or so. He was playing far more run downs the first few weeks.

Drafting a bust that you didn't want.

Like Chop originally was busted!
