What is the key to Pennington's success?

I am now a believer in Chad Pennington. But what has amazed me more than his leadership skills is his FOOTBALL IQ. I mean it takes what a year and a half for most Qb's to get comfortable with an offense and its receivers. And it seems as if Chad is already in that comfort zone. He is now building his rapport with his wide receivers. We all knew he was smart but i have underestimated his ability to learn and lead.

Look in sports there are a few things you cannot teach like size and your hands. But something overlooked is your ability to win games. There are qb's who have more talent but Chad is a WINNER. He does what a great player should and that is make everyone around him better he is helping this team grow and hopefully we keep him for a long time so he can reap the benefits that he helped usher in. Maybe we can get Chad that ring someday.

So what do you guys think, why has he been able to pick up the offense so quickly and why is he able to lead so effectively?

Because he is vertical. The oline is blocking so well he has time to find the open guy. His numbers would probably be better td's wise if not for the wildcat formation. The best part with him is when they go no-huddle. Against the Chargers Penny was picking them apart and once Miami got the ball across mid field and and got a 1st down the coaches called off the no huddle and slowed it down. Series resulted in a fg. Penny wanted to keep it going, later in the year he mighth win those.

Key is the oline, as long as they stay healthy and get they will be lights out by the last half of the season. Suprised they have come together this fast, especially after Thomas went down. That injury made me nervous but appears to have really help this oline because the last two games have been flawless compared to the first two. Not a knock on Thomas, just stating fact.

The o-line does have a lot to do with it...so does having Ronnie and Ricky....Fasano's been a big help/target too...but basicacly they're not asking him to be a super QB....just manage the game and that's what he does best.

Ozzy rules!!

I think it's because Ronnie takes half the snaps:tongue:

Totally agree. Our O-Line has been tremendous. Not to mention when you have 2 pro bowl caliber backs in Ronnie and Ricky, it certainly can take a load off you.

Your opinion of him is the same as how I felt about doug flutie. He never had the textbook traditional stats that a QB is suppose to have yet lil ******* found ways to win games. Having heart trumps skill to a certain extent.

I watched almost every snap that Chad took as a Jet and I have watched evey snap that he has taken as a Dolphin. A great running game and the fact that he is not running for his life every other play are the keys. Jets fans always said that they couldn't run the ball because defenses were not afraid of Chad beating them. Guess what? They were wrong, and this season proves it.

The same reasons he has done it pretty much his whole career. Pennington is a WINNER. PERIOD. He is smart, accurate, has great leadership qualities, and just dosent turn the ball over that much.

So much for the guru's around here that told us teams would stack the box on him. Like I said when we got him....I dare a team to stack the box on him.

We have totaled in the last two games more yardage on offense in a two game span since 1995. That of course was the last year of Shula and Marino was our QB.

The biggest reasons we have been losers the last couple years.....Daunte, Lemon, and BECK. Its really amazing what solid QB play can do for a team. I stated in Febuary how Pennington would be the PERFECT fit for us at QB right now along with drafting a guy to bring in in 2-3 season.

When you have a QB who makes accurate throws, knows what he is doing in the pocket, and dosent turn the ball over, it makes every player on your offense ALOT better. The biggest reasons the rest of our offense looked so bad was the QB play the last couple seasons. If your QB play is terrible(and thats giving Daunte and Beck too much credit) it gives you ZERO chance to accomplish anything offensively. It makes all the difference in the world.

Yea the OL is key, but not as important as a QB who can make up for mistakes made by the OL, and TAKE ADVANTAGE when the OL does its job right. The QB spot is the most important position on the field BY FAR in the NFL. Its really that simple. A terrible QB can make a good team a horrible team and a good QB can make a bad team a decent team. In this years case, a good QB might be making a decent team into a good team(playoff caliber). An elite QB can make a decent team a good team, like Marino always did. Pennington isnt on Marino's level, but he is clearly one of the better QBs in the league. He wont completely dominate teams, but he can definately do some damage and he also manages a game as well as anyone. He is a good QB. We havent had that in 10 years.

If we had Pennington instead of Fiedler those couple years Ricky was breaking people off, we may have had a team that won a title. Even the last couple years, we wouldve been a decent team with Pennington. In fact, we probably were good enough to win 9 or 10 games the year before last. Hell, we went 5-6 with Harrington as the starter.

I think when defenses start coming with hard blitz's Chad is going to eatem up. I love the fact that we are not giving up sacks. Man what a change.

Penny is one of the most underrated QBs in the league. I truly believe if the Jets kept Penny they would be better than they are now by far, to bad so sad. Penny is one of the best game managers I have ever seen, you saw last week how he new to work the clock, when to let it go down, when to hurry. It was like he was the coach on the field. The Oline is doing a great job and is another reason Penny is doing so well. When healthy Penny is a top QB in this league, his numbers will never be that of a Dbrees but the wins will be there. In four games Penny has only thrown 3 TDs, but he has only thrown 1 int. Those numbers will get better, but if they dont who cares as long as he keeps leading this team to victories. If Penny only throws 12 TDs and 4 Ints, but Ronnie runs for 30 TDs do you not think Penny is part of the reason why. I am very happy with Penny and hope he is here for a while. Let Henne grow, learn and earn the starting job, I dont care if it takes 5 years as long as Penny is playing like this.

I think it has to do with game planning. The first two games we had trouble moving the ball. The last two they have been great moving the chains. I am not trying too take anything away from chad, but I think the coaching has helped him out alot. Let's hope they can keep teams off balance, and keep chad on his feet. I would also like too see him get some of those throws down, b/4 he gets one of our rec killed sailing them up so high.

1-he has more confidence in his o line.what i mean is on his 5 drop he is moving up and into the pocket.coming forward is what chad must do,has to do because of his arm strength.the first 2 games you could see chad short arming the ball or throwing flat footed, not the last 2.give credit to chad for this.2-knowing the offense better and calling line protections better.3-a better running game.4 chad is not getting hit hard, maybe a coverage sack.but not a monster hit.chad will not survive it.5 chad can break you by being so accurate.anytime a guy can be in the 23 for 30 range,it can just wreck your mind set,by keeping you on the field and having to tackle ronnie.i am a big henne fan ,and feel we will be even better with him in time.but i have to give thanks to penny for what he has done and how he has solidified are team .we are now competitive.thanks

Its hard to point to one thing and say "Thats the reason." There are SO many reasons he has been successful.

First, our O-line is doing a fantastic job of buying him time.

Second, the Wildfin formation has kept Defenses guessing and kept them from stacking the line of scrimmage, as a result our O-line has performed better as they arent getting bullrushed every down. This all gives Chad more time, letting him be more effective.

Third, our offensive playcalling has been MUCH better the last 2 games. In part due to the success of wildfin, but even on non-wildfin downs we have been mixing it up real well, keeping Defenses offbalance.

Fourth, our receivers are actually catching the ball. This has been a huge problem for us in the recent past, its nice to see guys catching the ones they are supposoed to, and with the extra time Chad has in the pocket he can afford to find that open guy, not forcing passes into coverage.

Fifth, Penny actually makes our receivers look good, because again, for the first time in a while, we actually have a QB that is accurate enough to get the ball in their hands.

Sixth, our running game (Ronnie Brown) is so devastating atm, teams have to scheme more to stop the run than the pass.

This list is by no means comprehensive and not ordered in any particular fashion. It is the combination of these factors which have made our offense successful the last 2 games, and by extension, Penny.
