From what I have read in scouting reports he is good at press man, which Coyle likes, while still comfortable in zone, which Coyle uses on some blitzes. But I have also seen people say we shouldn't take him because he doesn't fit our scheme?

Now that we have Grimes, you can almost cross Rhodes off the list of possibilities. Expect a DE or LT.

I'm not saying we should waste the 12th pick on him, I just wanted to know why people thought he wouldn't fit Coyle's defense?

Grimes is coming off a terrible injury and has a 1 year deal - I wouldn't discount CB, LT or DE in any order

Just because we signed Grimes I wouldn't say we won't pick CB at 12. He has a one year deal to prove his injury won't affect his play. Even if he plays at high level it doesn't mean we won't be outbid next year. We still need a high CB pick this year IMO.

Coyle has said he was going mostly zone, which is far from Rhodes strength. He is a VG and very physical press cover man to man guy. He may adapt to a zone but, that is high risk, and make him somewhat of a project. I don't see him as a fit.

So are we going to use a lot of cover 2/cover 3? I don't know how effective zone coverage can be now that you can't hit defenseless receivers

We should pick best available between the cb/de/ or o line at 12

Well, from everything I'm hearing, we're wanting to play a lot of zone.

This hurts Rhodes' chances for Miami in a few ways:

1. Zone devalues the CB position to some extent.
2. Rhodes doesn't force a lot of TO's.
3. Rhodes doesn't tackle well.
4. There are CB's you can get later who will be better zone CB's than Rhodes.

To me, Rhodes is the best man-cover CB in the draft, but he's a reluctant tackler. Amerson isn't very good in man, but he forces a lot of TO's, and he's a much better tackler. Amerson at 2b/3a is a much better move for Miami than Rhodes at 12. If you're talking about the Jets or Raiders or another team that wants to run mostly man, Rhodes is a great fit (though you'd still like him to improve his tackling).

My biggest problem with Rhodes is he wouldnt dream of getting away with the physicality he got away with in college. Refs will flag him non-stop in the nfl.

IMO it's going to to be a very hard transition for him. He will have to rely on his feet a lot more I'm not sure how good he is once he's asked to do that consistently.

as long as the pick is a cb/de/ol/te im happy, and in no way would i expect the one year deals for both grimes or keller to mean we wont pick one of those positions up in the first, and especially the second.
