What makes the best teams

one size doesn't fit all in any application IMO -- so stuff like this is essentially (IMO) a designed pitch the presenter is using to sell "something." Beyond that -- a lot of folks like simple answers to very complex questions -- and are therefore easliy misled.

I agree with Uncle Ray's feedback with one qualifier -- doesn't matter how far you can "push it" and extend yourself if (IF) your baseline of performance is insufficient to do the job. You can have all the mental tuffness, resolve and "heart" in the universe but if you're 5'6" and run a 5.4 forty you ain't never (NEVER) gonna be an NFL WR!

As with everything else -- there are no absolute answers (certainties) -- only tendencies and probabilities.

True.

Agree; Anyone who claims to have all the answers is full of sh**

Selflessness is a great team trait. So is never giving up. The one though that almost never gets discussed is innocence. Pat Riley wrote about the value of innocence and how it had a profound impact on his time with the Lakers.

What makes the best teams are Speed, Strength, Execution, Coaching, Player Talent, Luck and Perserverance! ( Not necc. in that order.)

Assuming a minimum level of talent and skill, I'll say 3 of the following 5
top 10 QB
top 10 OL
top 10 D
top 10 weapons
top 10 HC
A team with no top 10s wins nothing of value.A team with 1 top 10 (e.g. Megatron) wins nothing. a team with a tp 10 D and top 10 HC can get to 'average.'
IMO, Miami is top 10 in QB and weapons. HC is yet to be determined. D may be there, but injuries and lack of help from the O limits a valid grade.

True. But on the same hand, the person that's been on a successful team, led a successful team, etc... doesn't necessarily think they "have all the answers", but I doubt anyone who's been part of that knows less than the clown in the stands with no background and no successful team experience.

There's lots of types of teams. I like this list for football but maybe not as much for other types. I'd put coaching, execution, perseverance on the top for football on this list.

I mean in general/big picture... not just sports

Go back to the "glory days" and it's easy to see... Shula was a great HC with a brilliant DC and an overall outstanding staff.

So the overall coaching platform was top shelf good as it gets EXCELLENT.

Add to that Joe Thomas and then Bobby Bethard = personnel was top shelf EXCELLENT.

Then add some Czonka Griese Warfield Buoniconti Langer Little Scott Anderson Morris... and wow.

Talk about TEAM and TEAM greatness. I mean they went undefeated and still underachieved!!!

I agree with this order too. Bum Philips (RIP) once said about Shula - "he could take his'n and beat your'n..and then take your'n and beat his'n". Or something like that. Anyway, that's why great coaches like Shula rarely had losing seasons.
