Signing free agent is not.....

going to help us in the long run!! First off all once we find out the news of the labor agreement turns out, we will get a better picture for what will happen to this team. While many of you guys are talking about signing many free agents, I am not sure that will be beneficial to this team in the long run. Our focus this season should be to get younger. If I remember correctly, our defense is one of the oldest in the league. Having an older team is not a good thing to have. Over the past few years our team has suffered through way to many injuries. This can be attributed to the average age of this team. This team needs to be built through the draft. Finding 35 year old players in free agency will not help us get better in the future. If you can sign them for a very small price then it may be worth it if they are very good. Other than that we cannot take the risk of signing aged players. It was a big risk that Wanny did himself throughout his coaching career and look what happened to him.

With this being said, we need to find young talented players. This is very hard to find throughout free agency. Finding this is very tough through free agency. One of the great exceptions is Drew Brees(I know this has been said before). Drew Brees is not the 35 year old free agent player that I was talking about before. He is a 27 year old pro bowl quarterback. A player of his calibur at that position is hard to find. We know that from experience after Dan Marino retired. We have enough money to sign him. We should not throw out the possiblity of getting a young all-pro quarterback. If we do it could be another 10 years before we get another good quarterback.

Well I would love for us to pick up 2 old dudes:
Sam Adams and Mawae.
As far as Brees...sure he would be a great pick up!!

Well I don't know if Miami's defense in whole is as old as you think. Last time I checked Madison was released, Schulters unfortunately is probably also going ot be released, becuase he will most likley want a big contract. So Miami's secondary is going to be pretty young, which they will hopefully vind one veteran db from FA. Travis Daniels staring CB, Will Poole, Shirdonya Mitchell, Yerimiah Bell as the starting FS. lb channing crowder. Don't forget about Vickerson, and Manuel Wright in which these guys could be starting or be a key part of the rotation. Plus, Matt Roth and his development. Yes there are veterans on the team, but this team has more young players than you think that are starters, or are not that far from being in the lineup.

The Dolphins will get younger, but I like the idea that Saban is looking for all avenues to improve the team. While I prefer younger free agents as well, the idea of bringing in Kevin Mawae has it's benefits. The Dolphins offensive line is young and they need the type of leadership that Mawae can provide. That shows me, more than anything, that Saban knows what he is doing. He has a good core of veteran leaders on defense, but who is the leader on offense? To some degree Randy McMichael, but I think you need to have that at key positions like quarterback and center (Brees and Mawae).

I agree with almost all of what you said.
Championship teams can be built through various ways, but for longer success, nothing can prepare a team like the draft. Two or three good drafts can build a foundation for a decade of excellence. The real key to the draft though is not making "the mistake" in round one and being able to hit on sleepers in rounds 5-7. That is what I think Saban is going to be excellent at.

You always need experienced leadership. I think Mawae would be a welcome addition at Center. Arrington is probably too expensive in the reguard that Saban is starting to add more of a balance of money between the offense and defense.
As far as the 2006 draft, I hope that the Dolphins draft the best player on the board when they pick in each round. Meaning that even if the best player in round one is a RB, then they take him. That may sound crazy to some, but I believe in drafting value over "need".

If the CBA is passed we should have plent of cap to do whate we want.

So ill start by cutting frerrote theres no need for him to be making a salary of over 5 million.

Sign Drew Brees giving us our Qb of the future

After that i would sign Chris Hope he is 25 and he will want the same money as schulters so why sign schulters back when we can get someone who can play in our secondary for 5-8 years

Move Hadnot to center and sign Tony Funoti he is a massive mauler who will come at an average price and houck has caoched him before so i think there would be interest there.

Depending on how much cap is left i would like to bring in Will Allen who is a good cover corner and a great open field tackler very similair to a daniels type player with more speed.

In the Draft i say my mock that i have under my sig minus olsen with maybe an olineman be taken there.

Wat u guys think i believe this is very possible if the CBA is passed

This makes us younger both on the offense and defense giving us players that can be here for years to come

I like adding "old" vets in very needed positions. We build thru the draft. The young guys can learn from an "old" vet before they take over for the long haul. That's how you build a championship team. We didn't have any young guys pushing for positions before because we didn't have any talent in most cases and no decent coaches to teach them their craft. I think we now have both.

I agree. You need to have a good mix of young players and some vets too.Our defence does have some young guys like Roth,Vickerson,Wright,Crowder,Bell,Daniels,Poole and Nick is bound to go defence with maybe 3 of his top 4 picks too.....Bringing in vets like Mawae and Adams is ok with me cos we're still getting young players but you need the vets too.

Ozzy rules!!

hopefully qb Brees rb Brown & Williams fb Barnes & Morris wr Chambers & T.O I think Booker will be traded for some reason, te McMicheal OL Carey , James, Hadnot and Mawae On Defense DE Carter & Taylor DT Adams & Holiday LB Thomas Chowder Peterson CB Law, Daniels , Poole S Schulters Hope And with the Draft 1 Round Pick OL Winston Justice 2 Round Pick CB Cedrick Griffin 3 Round Pick QB Charlie Whitehurst 4 Round Round Pick WR Brandon Marshall What Do You Think Of A Team Like That
i know it seems like a reach with the free agents but if we could get 3 0r 4 we will be good if this cba gets done. think about how many free agents we signed last year. who would have thought we could signed carter, holliday, traylor, jones, schulters, and frerotte and give a big bonus to brown as the #2 pick. so you never know it could happen
they all don't want big money, we cut frerotte and traylor and maybe trade booker to atlanta for draft pick. that could free up more money anything is possible.

actually drafting the best player overall is a smart way to go. We have been trapped in the years past with drafting areas of need. Last year we got great players because we drafted the best possible players. Sometimes we were luckily and were able to fill an area of need at the same time. This year should not be any different. Remember that teams area of need can change very quickly. That is why it is important to be deep at all positions.

Going back to what you said about Mawae helping this team out... Im not sure if he would be a valuable acquisition for this team. We thought that Junior Seau would bring that leadership role to this defense but he suffered through injuries most of his time here. Im not sure if Mawae will be able to stay healthy. His skills have also greatly diminished. Since the NFL reached an agreement I say that if they can him to an affordable contract then it may be worth it. Anything close to what Holliday, Carter, or what Frerotte got would be a big waste of money.

..... sorry for the long posts... the aderal is flowing

Not signing a quality free agent, like Mawae, won't help us magically get younger. Getting younger is a process that has to happen over several years and drafts, and there is no harm in bringing in some free agents that won't strain the cap too much that will help make us playoff contenders.

I feel bringing in Adams and Mawae with two year contracts so we have the ability to cut them next year with no penalty and also sign to cheap contracts would be a benefit. I feel if we fill more holes in FA then we only need to draft the best players available. Allowing the younger guys to learn from real pros and then take over the job. Seems to me this is what the Pats, Steelers, and Eagles have done for years. It works for them it will work for us.
