Does anyone know what all draft picks we have now after the McDaniel and Satele trades?? Has anyone heard what draft pick in Round 7 we gave up for McDaniel?? Thanks

This is from Wikipedia:

Cleveland to Miami. Cleveland traded its seventh-round selection to Miami for cornerback Travis Daniels

Carolina to Miami. Carolina traded its seventh-round selection to Miami for quarterback Josh McCown

Miami to Jacksonville. Miami traded its seventh-round selection to Jacksonville for defensive tackle Tony McDaniel

So either we traded Cleveland's or Carolina's.

And no we don't have a 6th rounder because we traded our 2008 6th rounder + 2009 6th rounder to Dallas for Jason Ferguson and their 2008 6th rounder.

There has been no official word yet on which 7th round pick we gave up. I have been trying to find some credible information but haven't yet. Hopefully we find out soon.

With that said, this is what we have. Please keep in mind that this is prior to the league handing out the 32 compensatory picks, which will start at the end of round 3. Picks in rounds 1-3 are set, but the total for rounds 4-7 will change a bit. Also, we will NOT be receiving any compensatory picks.

1st Round(25)
2nd Round(44) - From Washington
2nd Round(56)
3rd Round(87)
4th Round(104) - From Oakland
5th Round(153)
6th round(168) - From Oakland
7th Round(197) - From Cleveland*****
7th Round(215)*****
7th Round(220) - From Carolina*****

***** = One of these picks went to Jacksonville for Tony McDaniel.

I trust Parcells with picks. I mean look at last years draft compared to the years before it. If it was Randy Mueller it would be a different story. That guy sucked. Parcells has a knack for late round talent. Bess was undrafted and i thought he performed very well. I'm excited for he draft, i cant wait.

That's my thinking exactly. Every year people all winter long are posting threads wanting the FO to trade away picks to bring people in... Well we had a FO that did that for years, and look where that got us.

Apart from 2005, the 2002 through 2006 drafts were a joke in that we just didn't have enough picks to do anything (2006 ESPECIALLY). Atleast in 2007 we had enough picks to do some damage... (although history has shown we really didn't)...

Fastforward to 2008. 9 picks... giving us 4 starters and 4 quality backups. I feel pretty confident in what this FO is able to do with thier picks... and IMHO... the more ammo Parcells has going into the draft, the better.

If nothing else it will be fun to watch since we'll have picks often (5 of the top 104!).

a 6th for Satele as well as trading 4th rounders...c'mon now,we could've gotten a low 2nd or high 3rd for Satele...

Compensatory picks were just handed out by the league. As expected, Miami did not receive any. However, we do now know the exact slot the Dolphins will be picking in rounds 4-7.

Here are the updated picks.

2nd Round(56)
3rd Round(87)
4th Round(108) - From Oakland

Not if no other team thinks that Satele is all that good :err: or if only one other team wants him (i.e., Raiders)

speaking of compensatory picks. Lets say Satele plays like a pro bowler next year for the raiders, do we get a compensatory pick for him the following year? or no?

The best teams always have the most draft picks. Good teams know that their personnel guys can find the right talent no matter where they pick. This is opposed to poor teams that trade wildly and scour free agency. There is a reason for this.

Poor teams tend to have poor personnel guys. They must then rely on other team’s personnel guys, and do so by trading and acquiring players that other teams have already developed. The best teams develop their own talent through the draft. The more picks a team has, the more chance to bring in young talent a good team has.

This also has an affect on the cap. Teams must have an influx of good young talent for cheap from the draft. Picks from the lower rounds play for peanuts, and must prove themselves before they get that big payday. Therefore, when playing on that rookie contract, if that young talent becomes a quality starter or even a probowler, the better for the team as they have cheap, cap friendly talent.

An example would be Colston, the WR from the Saints. He was a 7th rounder playing for next to nothing, but put up probowl numbers. Getting a probowl player for 7th round money is cap friendly.

This is why it is so important for us to have as many picks as possible, no matter the round, as to provide our personnel guys with as many chances to bring low cost talent to this team.

No, compensatory picks are only for unrestricted free agents. Players traded do not count, RFA do not count and players released do not count.

So, guys like Grove count, but Wilson do not.
