What round was it that we had a shot an Antaj Hawthorne? I'm pretty sure we could have grabbed him in the 4th(Happy with Daniels), but correct me if i'm wrong. Wasn't he also on the board in the 5th when we were picking? I know he was there at the spot KC was picking (pick we traded for Surtain).

We shoulda grabbed him when we had the chance and out DL would be set this season.

P.S. Don't anyone bring up the combine p1ss test. We've brought in dudes this offseason who have done WAY worse things than smoke weed.:D

6 rd #175 to Oakland, didn't have a 6th, so we could have gotten him in the 5th instead of Alabi.

The fact that he smoked weed wasnt the issure. The fact that he was stupid enough to smoke weed just before he knew he would be tested and the results of that test could mean millions of dollars difference was. Somebody that mentally challenged would be lucky to be able to spell their own name, much less learn a playbook.

Yeap. However I still would have had to take him that late in the draft. Its not like the player Miami drafted will not most likely end up on the cutting block anyway.

Actually I agree with you. In the 5th round why not take a chance on a guy who has talent but has off field issues, you never know.

The D-line would not have been "set" with the addition of a sixth round pick. DT is a hard position to adjust to in the NFL.

Hawthorne was projected to be a late 1st/early 2nd rd. pick...so a gamble in the fifth might have been a good idea, but if Alabi turns into a pro-bowl tackle under the guidance of Houck everyone will forget about this whole thing.

That guy was going in the 1st round if he didn't smoke out before the combine. I would have taken him the 5th over Alabi.

It sounded like Hawk was impressed with Alabi...whereas Hawthorne had a lot of character issue questions.

Honestly though how much of a playbook do DT's have? Maybe a few stunts, its mostly get low, hold your ground, and gain some if possible. A DT's main job is to clog things up, this guy can do that. It baffles me how some people are willing to take back Ricky who has failed 3 drug tests and quit on his team, but balk at the idea of taking a kid who screwed up before the combine. I liked this guy before the failed test, I think he would have been a solid pickup in the 5th. But I will defer to the professionals whose jobs rely on making the correct choice.

I was hoping the Dolphins would pull the trigger on him too. But it's so hard for a rookie to come in at DT and be a really solid player. It usually takes a year to adjust.

Hawthorne has a lot of promise on the field if he get his head around his new "profession". I think Vickerson will be a find come 2006. I'm looking at him like a Norman Hand, a guy, drafted late who grows into his body later on.

As to Alabi, Houck had scouted him personally and must see something. Given his coaching history, I willing to wait and see.
