Does anyone know who the saints drafted with the 3 picks we gave them for ricky?? What do you think about the trade from that perspective? Just something to do during these slowwwww FA days

okay heres what they got. 2002 number 1 pick that was used to draft DE charles grant. he was the 25th overall pick and the draft and still with the team (as far as i still know). they got the 17th pick in 2003 which neworleans combined with the 18th pick and traded up to 6th to get johnathen sullivan....sullivan was later traded to patsies for bethel johnson (and then never played a game for them)

so pretty much we traded ricky to new orleans for charles grant in the long run.

on note clinton portis was drafted in the 2nd round on the 2002 draft (even though he wouldve been prob a reach at our position since deshaun foster went before him) and willis mcghee and larry johson went right after our pic in the 2003 draft. so we prob wouldve been able to convert one of those pics into a probowl running back anyways. but hindsight is 20/20 there. hope that helped

We would have drafted our own number 1s that may or may not have worked out

Even if we had those picks, do you really think Wanny and Speilman would have drafted a good player? Probably not.The only player that is currently on our team that was drafted by them is Vernon Carey, and we had to give up a frist and third pick to get him.

looking at the drafts im prob guessing we wouldve gotten deshaun foster in 02 and kyle boller in 03 (and i know wanny was in love with fielder but its a nice BUST pic)
but who knows that pic may have been in the low teens if we wouldv

Had Ricky not retired, we're talking about the Dolphins trading for a HALL OF FAME RB right now. Unfortunately he cost himself that oppertunity at Canton by being kicked out of football so many times. Considering the Dolphins still have Ricky seven years later however, i think you still have to look at that trade as a very good one, especially with how the Saints ended up using those picks (Jonathan Sullivan was terrible).

They did not give up a first and a third. They moved up one spot, so they swapped picks with Minnesota and gave up a 4th round pick to move up 1 spot.

its not like we would haved drafted the same people that the saints did

It's a shame what Ricky did to himself, he for sure had a ticket to Canton and IMO possibly could of beatin Emitt Smiths rushing title

yeahthats why i said we wouldve drafted foster thinking he was gonna be a probowl running back (and being from charlotte deshaun did have his MOMENTS) and i guess at a qb in the 03 draft even though like i said they were in love with jay...but heck before the ricky trade we were in the playoffs

Wanstadt would have definatly screwed it up. He would have drafted the worst running back in the draft. or just completly ignored the position like he did the quarterback position. Never once after marino left did we draft a quarterback in round 1 or 2. It was always A.J. Feely or Daunte Culpepper.

Had Ricky not been so beastly in 2002 and had he ran for less then 1500 yards we wouldn't of gave up the the 1st rounder in 2003.

He went over 1500 yards and had 1853 yards, so we gave up another 1st.

Yeremiah!

Nah! I'll give them some props for getting YEM BELL in the 6th round!

The Tandem of Ronnie Brown & Ricky Williams running behind a revitalized offensive line will be the highlight of the 2009 season

What the other teams did with the pick has nothing to do with value. It is what we would have done with them.
