This is a fair question because this is a very important year for the Dolphins franchise. Ireland has been here since the 2008 season and has only amassed one winning season as a GM. He has assembled two different styled units for two vastly different coaches and hasn't found much success (other than with Pennington at QB) with either Head Coach. He has many draft busts, but has also brought in quality starters in Wake, Starks, Hartline, and Grimes. He also has many notable flops like Pat White. He is a middle of the road NFL GM if you ask me. Not very great, not too terrible either.

Next we have Philbin. He is the type of coach Dolphins fans clamored for after the firing of Sparano. He is a disciplinarian, he brought aspects of the Green Bay offense to Miami and was touted as an offensive guru. His high tempo pass first offense is what many Dolphins fans have wanted to see, yet the results have not been that great. Miami still ranks 27th in the league in yards gained per game (312.7) and 18th in points scored per game (22.5) this season. The defense has regressed with the departure of Dansby and Burnett as well. Philbin doesn't take lightly to players who question the coaches and is loyal to Sheman who many here cannot stand.

In my opinion, the success if the Dolphins this season will determine the fate of Ireland/Philbin. In believe their time in Miami are dependent on the success of the Dolphins this season. If Ireland is fired, the new GM will bring in their own Head Coach. I also think if Philbin has success and rallies the Dolphins back from a 3-3 start to make the playoffs, Ireland and Philbin both get another year.

That all said, what would it take for you to let Ireland/Philbin get another year?

Playoffs.

No playoffs means they are all gone

9-7 or better...Ill give them another shot. 8-8 is not good enough. Said this before the season and I'm sticking to it. Winning 6 of the next 10 is doable.

Winning record is good enough for me this year, next year though barring a tanny injury we must make the playoffs. 9-7 or better this year. Ireland I have wanted gone for years, Philbin I like but if we get a high powered GM he might want his own coach, I would be ok with that

I said it before the season began: 11 wins or a playoff berth. I see no need to adjust that requirement(especially since this forum apparently finds adjusting predictions to be the most offensive thing ever).

Now, thats just for me. For Ross? I expect if we hit 7 wins everyone will be safe. And im not being snide, i genuinely believe Ross is content with the regime hes assembled.

edit: I should clarify, the 11 wins requirement was for Ireland. Im not pleased with Philbin, but i understand hes working with a relatively untalented roster. I could take him or leave him going into next season.

Ireland had a chance to build a real nice team this offseason and he blew it. Both him and Steve Ross are more concerned with doing things "their way" and trying to to bamboozle fans with a big name rather than keeping hard working players.

When the priority of not resigning Reggie Bush became evident, you just felt this team was in for some problems. You have the 2nd youngest team in the NFL and you cut a guy who's been a role model leader his entire tenure with the Dolphins. Treated him like a ****ing scrub if he fumbled yet you can sit back and watch Clabo and Martin scrub it up and a gust of wind knock Lamar Miller on the ground.

Guess it's going to take Ryan Tannehill just completely sucking for people to realize how bad this Ireland guy is. Shame that Ireland gets credit for drafting Tannehill . . . I hope he gets the same credit for ruining Tannehill also because Ryan can't survive this season on a positive note if changes aren't made.

Honestly I do not think there is anyway they lose their jobs this year. Even with a losing record, Ross gave Ireland an extension so he believes in him, I think Ross gives them next year as well.

Making the playoffs, nothing less than that. There is no dominant team in the division or conference right now. You go out and spend all that money in free agency, have all those picks in this past draft, then you better be making the playoffs this year.

Losing to the Saints in their house was to be expected since they are a tough team especially at home and you're not going to win them all.

However losing to two beat up average teams on your home field , one that you had an extra week to prepare for just doesn't fly in the NFL. Also you can't lose at home to a division team that has a 3rd string QB starting. The Bills defense is good but they are not great. There is just no excuse for coming out the way they did yesterday and then blowing that game.

Unfortunately, I believe this to be correct. I think like the rest of us Ross was so enamored with the start of our season he decided to extend Ireland without letting things play out, and now for better or worse we are stuck with him for at the very least one more season.

I personally judge Ireland and Philbin on two different criterias because Ireland has had his job for now his 5th year. 8-8 or below we can show him the door. Philben gets a third year unless we only win 4 games

you have to love working for a guy like Ross, you dont even need to succeed and he extends you. He loves to give out free money

Ireland is back not matter what the hell he does...Ross is an idiot

This is year two of "three year plan" .... again. Everyone's coming back if we finish 8-8 or better, unless there's a sacrificial OC or DC or underling fired.
