prior to our switch to the 34, our defense was terrorizing people with guys like Taylor and Mixon on the end, Timbo and Gardner (when healthy) inside, these are the days of Jimmy Johnson's "Tropical Swarm" as he wanted it known. Now trying to imagine a defensive front, including Coples and Wake as our DE, Odrick and Starks providing pressure inside , Burnett and Dansby outside with Misi in the middle... we would need to address the safety position, and most likely keep an eye on Koa Misi and chart his progress. Here's the article that peaked my interest: http://www.palmbeachpost.com/sports/dolphins/miami-dolphins-switch-to-4-3-defense-could-2125789.html

Its hard to say how they are going to transition to the 4-3. There are different philosophies to the 4-3. But the old Jimmy Johnson D depending on a big massive DT in the likes of Tim Bowens and Daryl Gardner who can occupy OL men with Edge Rusher at DE in Armstrong and Jason Taylor. The old Bucs 4-3 depended on the DT to be small and quick to cause hovac in the back field. If the dolphin acquire Peyton Manning then its likely that they will add players throught the draft to make it a 4-3 defense. If we do lose Soiai, then we could use a draft pick early to draft a DT like Dontari Poe and Brandon Thompson or more tranditional quick OLB in Zach Brown, Sean Spence and Mychal Kendricks. But its hard to say with a definite answer from the dolphins organization about the defense philosophy.

Right now it would look like this:

Front four: Wake,Odrick,Starks,Merling

LB: Brunett,Misi,Dansby

S: Bell,Jones

CB: Davis,Smith

Merling and Jones need to be upraded and nobody really knows yet how effective Misi would be playing LB in the 4-3. It also remains to be seen if Merling is dropping weight to play end or staying fat and playing DT.

There is a lot depth needed and some upgrades would really help. Guys like S Reggie Nelson amd DE Mario Williams would really help but both are going to be hideously overpriced. Maybe we will get a guy like Jeremy Mincey or a creative contract with John Abraham.
